| Post subject: | What boat for GTR 35 |
I've been reading this site for awhile now and finally bought a GTR 35. (First One) I'm an avid duck hunter and will run this motor in marsh lands, weeds, and open water. I'm not looking at rocket ship speeds and don't plan on jumping or running in flooded timber. I would like to put this motor on a welded Tracker Grizzly Jon 1754 or a 1860 depending on possible pros and cons. Would one of these boats be an alright rig to handle the surface drive. The boat will only see 3 guys and a dog with decoys on the more loaded days. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. |

Congrats on your purchase! Since you bought a gatortail, I would look into the gatortail hull. They are designed to to get the best performance with the gatortail surface drives! And there also designed to handle the torture that these mudmotors put these hulls threw! Good Luck! |

Gatortail boat would obviously run well with your motor. I run a gatortrax and it does well with my motor also. Biggest thing is making sure you get the transom angle and height correct. Don't go buy a grizzly tracker, or some other tin can aluminum boat. If its all you can afford...then so be it. But otherwise you should look at a real mud hull with a flat bottom, longitudinal bracing, and reinforced transom. You will tear up a regular aluminum boat made for outboards quickly. Do it right the first time...many have made the mistake of wasting their money the first time, only to throw that boat away a year later and spend the money on a new mud boat. Good luck...hit up the classified section on here and check out boats only section. |

Buy a hull designed and built for a mudmotor. Gator Tail will build ANYTHING you want...check them out. |

I like my 1860 but I don't know if a stock motor would make you very happy carrying heavy loads. Maybe consider a boat like Craig just bought. |

What's the 1860 grizzly cost? 3500-4000. You can get a mud hull for that price |

If I did it all over again I would get a gatortax. They are some tough boats. My buddy has one and he loves it. If your running a lot of stumps you might think about get a 3/16 hull. I have had the gatortail boat and motor combo, and that is my .02 cents worth!!! Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk |

Living North of the border I guess I'm going to have to go on a wild journey to pick up a Gator Trax or Gator Tail boat. Budget isn't the issue with buying a Tracker it's simply Gator Trax or Gator Tail are nearly impossible to find in Canada.... If I do find one it will be used.... I've only ever seen 2 for sale and the motor attached was not what I wanted.... |

Phowler boats are in Clinton Iowa. Also there is a Gatortrax dealer in WI. Both of those are close to the border. |

I'll ship you mine... You really can use a company to ship the boat from my door to yours or where ever. Gatortrax delivers boats this way I know and I believe gatortail does as well. Where you located in Canada? That might help determine shipping. Some guys might even be willi g to split shipping on a used rig |

Offer a Canadian goose hunt for their trouble and you might even get someone to bring it to you for free! |

honestly of course the boats built for these motors are the best choice straight from the manufacturer, but i opted for a custom hull and there are alot of builders on here so make some phone calls and see what custom builders have to offer, we have some pretty reputable builders here on the site that are also sponsors |

After a "LOT" of research, I also chose a custom hull. I saved a couple of grand and got it built the way I wanted it. The manufactured boats are great as well. Just make sure you get a true mud boat built to run that engine so you can realize it's full potential. Curl |
