I know Prodrive has reverse but I could get a mud buddy easier now. Just wondering what y'all's suggestion would be? Thanks.

ProDrive.

Buying an engine without reverse is retarded.

Pro drive if thats you only options.. I like prodrive, its a damn good motor.. and if you dont use reverse or run thick deep mud alot then get it. If you think you'll be reversing alot, and will be running alot of mud, id get a gator tail. The pro drive reverse is more effective, but became a pain to me sometimes because I was needing it quite a bit and got tired of having to rathcet it each time.. I ended up using a pushpole more than anything. Hydro reverse would be way nicer.. But for what I was using them for, the gator tails reverse was more convienient, yet less effective. And it was also able to dig down and grab in some spots the pro drive stuggled.. All in all they both seem like great motors to me. Its all comes down to what you will be using it for and what you prefer.. But like I said that the beginning if all you have the choice of is a mudbuddy or pro drive, definitely get the pro drive. hands down any day of the week over the mud buddy

The new 25 suburu would be perfect for your boat.. Its supposed to be far far better, with more torque, power, load carrying ability, than the 23 briggs. Sounds like a jam up little motor... Should be just what your looking for

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive or Mud Buddy?

Yeah it really don't matter to me I know both are really good motors, I won't be runnin to thick of mud. I mostly will be runnin rice fields but they ain't to thick of mud. I was just seeing what y'all though.

If your thinking about getting the 27HP mud buddy i would asl a handful of guys on here how they liked them, i'm sure they'll chime in sooner or later. The 27 is cool by itself but if you add any kind of load to it you kill it, The 25 Subaru will run cirlces around a 23hp and 27hp load or no load that little motor does work. Save your money make the right choice the first time, don't make 3,4,5 thousand dollar mistake.

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive or Mud Buddy?

lol if your gonna build it might as well do it all, YOu gonna run a carb, you'll really see what all those mods are about if you run a carb, Increaseing head pressure, beefing up internals, if your still running stock carb that motor is gonna be hurting for more fuel and air....no worries just an observation

I bet that thing will get it after all that! Sounds like a lot of investment, can't wait to see what it'll do.

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive or Mud Buddy?

Don't waste you money putting a SD on a 15' jon boat, trust me on this one.

Save until you can get a 35 on a 18'

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive or Mud Buddy?

I just cant wait to see what a modded 25 suburu would do, although from what Im hearing It really doesent need mods, comes from the factory a work horse

x2 on what woodie said.. If you gonna spend that much, might as well invest in a hull made for a mud motor anyways.. You'll never really get the performance you want out of a boat not made for a mud motor anyways. deal with the longtail one more season, save up a little more to buy a used mud hull like a 16 or 17 44 or 48 and put the surface drive you decide on on that, or wait just a little bit longer, and get a 17 or 18 and 35.. In the end you'll always be wanting more power, so if you can wait, you might as well just wait a bit more, and save a bit more, and get you a 35 and 17 or 18.

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive or Mud Buddy?

Yeah I think ima just do that, I wanna get a 1754 with a 35 GTR! Made a good choice of starting this thread. I appriciate all y'all's suggestions!

Author:  brasso [ Thu Oct 04, 2012 9:19 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Prodrive or Mud Buddy?

Thats probably your best bet.. Thats what im doing.. Ill stick with the longtail rig until I have the money to build a boat the way I want it, and the money to put a 35 on the back of it.
