 Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
Looking for a small hp surface drive for my 1436 Alumacraft flat bottom/slight mod V. The boat currently has a 9hp GDLT but could use some more speed/power. Anyways, what are you thoughts on Copperheads and Dixie surface drives? I've heard nothing but good things about Copperhead and am strongly thinking about the 12hp model. My other option is the Dixie 10hp but the brand scares me a little, I havn'te heard much about them so I figured I'd ask on here. The Dixie is about $1000 cheaper and weights about 30 lbs less.
I spoke with Gil from Copperhead the other day and he was very helpful so I am leaning towards them. Any thoughts on what would be a good choice for my boat? Thanks

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
I’ve got a Dixie Mud motor and absolutely love it. Great value for your money and the company is awesome.
My Setup: Alumacraft 1442 (open floor plan ) tricked out 13 hp Dixie Honda GX 390 custom 9x10 prop and custom 10x6 prop. 36 top gear 44 bott. gear
To date the best speed is 24 mph (gps) open water. Runs 20’s all day. The 10x6 custom prop. Loaded is now doing 15 mph 2 guys and hunting gear etc.
I highly recommend Dixie mud motors.

Go with the biggest motor your boat can handle. You'll need the hp.

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
I have personally blown up or broken every single outboard motor, boat, trailer, Buggy, ATV etc. you name it I’ve broken it. Including my custom tournament rigged offshore boat with triple 350 4 strokes.
I landed off a wave 100 miles offshore broke the t-top and center console. Coast guard dispatched helicopters looking for us because I broke the EBRIP as well. Shit happens.
I have over 30 years of engineering experience. I’m in private practice in the state of Florida. In my opinion Dixie mud motors is top notch. I Love my Dixie Mud motor.

Take it for what it is man. Dixie's a new company. Gonna have more flaws and break downs than one of the older more experienced brands, gt pd gd or mb. Your better off buying a used one. Feel free to pm me.

I hit a coral rock in the Florida everglades and sheared my prop. Purchased several new props and have been tweaking my setup ever since.

Save your $1000 get a Dixie and one hell of a company to stand behind you. That will take care of you IF you have a problem.

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
I have A Q's ?? Its seems that most post that go up on Dixie Are good, but then you read some post about people not being happy for what ever reason, all mudmotors have there mechanical faults, but when a few come on to a thread it's sounds more personal in the attacks of Dixie ,do you guys know Ben out side of his product or it's that you don't care for him because he made a run at this line of work? are you diehard copperhead fans? i don't get it ,but i can tell you the dealings that i have had with him are spot on pleasure to talk to always willing to please and my dixies are holding up fine, hell i got a 16hp copperhead brand new 2 yrs ago and had a problem right from the start had to ship it back to fix the issue sh.t happens but like i said in these post it's seems personal and i can't figure out why? Nasty if there is a major problem with this product ,do share it with all of us instead of doing it threw a pm ,i think we all would like to know thanks.

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
Ive already shared my displeasures. If you would like me to be more detailed i would be more than happy to elaborate for yahaving said that, I find it hard to believe that you had a problem with a copperhead you bought brand new. it's almost like you said that just bc of what I've said.

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
Any suggestions as to what would work better on my 1436, the 10hp Dixie or the 12hp Copperhead. I'm sure the extra 2hp would be nice but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $1000 or so.

I'll back rudyeng's rig performance. I still run a longtail. I like the marketplace and choices and competition is good for everybody except those who want a monopoly.

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
nasty If you have a problem lets hear it.What are you now a copperhead troll. Why did you change your screen name ? When you 1st got your Dixie you were wanting to become a dealer right.Posting all your speeds saying how good the motor was.Now after they fixed it. Which sucks that you had problems with it in the 1st place. But guess what shit happens. Grow up you dont know shit about this motors.Did you get a new motor? Would that company buy it back cause you had money problems? Come on now be a man and tell the truth. This does sounds like someone that sits home all day with noting to do but bitch.

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
Nasty, you bought a Dixie set up had problems, they fixed it, now you don't want it any more ,they offered to help you sell it ,and now your pissed off that Dixie will not buy it back ,are you kidding me, call prodrive/gatortail/copperhead /g devil/mudbuddy or any other MMcompany and ask them to do the same , i would think that all these companys would stand behind there product and fix it or replace it but will never buy it back that will never happen

 Re: Copperhead vs Dixie reliablility
I think your making a good choice there. No substitute for horsepower! One other recommendation...save your money and add the power trim. That was the best decision I made. It allows you to trim the motor at the touch of a button and makes it a lot easier to learn how to run the engine. I generally trim mine down to get the boat up on plane faster, then trim it up for smooth running. You definetely dont have to have it, but it sure makes life easier. I originally ordered mine without, but after running it a few times...I quickly decided its a must for my rig!
