18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
MM Brand: Gator Tail Horsepower: 35 (lil daddy mods) Boat Brand: Gator Tail Boat Size: 18x54 Boat Layout: Center Console
Speeds | Shallow Water: N/A Speeds | Deep Water: 32.5 Total Boat Load With Gear Etc: 3 men 31
First off there is a learning curve going from tiller to steering. Put a nice lil dent in the boat because a tree would not move out the way. Boat runs dam good can't complain about that very impressed with the mods and the crew at GT did a great job. I had the boat for a year then decided to mod it out and put the center console on it. I did the CC work myself wasn't that bad, thought it was gonna be a lot worst. Haven't found any mud yet that's where I was going today but I got called back into work so never made it to any mud. Can't wait to get some more wheel time with her. As basinhunter said before I guess I am in the MMPG.

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Before the mods I could run 31 by myself and with 2 people and fishing gear about 28. Mods help a lot with loads thats for sure. After the mods for the La mud run we were running 31.5 with the load I had in the boat.

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Bet powersliding on 1" water over a mudflat with CC steering is going to be fun - and feel a lot different too....
Tell us bout it when you get into it....

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Put you a steering knob on your wheel....comes in handy when you need to "go to town" on the steering wheel in situations....can't see if you have one already (dark)
Nice job!

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Blaze- Looks like really good custom work. You will really like the console. I have the gas tanks and starting battery in the back of the boat since you will sit in the middle. A level boat slides a bunch more than one with more weight in da back. Good luck!!

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Blaze, I have been thinking about doing the same. What negatives do you have about the CC vs the Tiller?
If you dont mind, what did the conversion from Tiller to CC run ya dollar wise?

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Duck its about 2-3 grand to convert. Just the hydraulic steering is 1200 or so.

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
If you do it yourself there's no way it's gonna be 2 grand. The hyd was a little under 700. That's most of the cost. I think I spent aroun 950 on the conversion, but worth every penny.

Thanks Guys, so far I havent seen any negative feed back on the CC. I think I will go with it prior to the opener this year.

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
I just spoke to a hunting buddy of mine that had a CC on his boat, but changed it to a side counsol, he stated that when the blind was up, he couldnt move around the boat if he was the one sitting in the rear.
Is that a problem, with your set up?

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Look at quackconsumer's set up. He has an offset cc. Its taller like a cc, so you can drive standing up. Its offset a lil bit to the side so that you can move freely throughout the hull, but when you're standing can still drive from the center to keep the weight right.

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
I have a side console. Did it that way so the boat would be more open. IMO a CC takes up too much room if you have to hunt out of the boat. If I had to do it over again, the only thing I'd change is to do it like quackconsumer's. Driving while standing up with a side console will wear your back out. It is nice to be able to sit low in rough water, though.

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
Whenever I switch from tiller to console, I'm going to do a modified side console like quack. I'm going to get Uncle J to build it whenever I'm ready in a few years.

Re: 18x54 GTB CC GTR 35
That is the only negative about my CC is moving from the front to the back of the boat with the blind up. It's doable, but a crawling activity. Driving in a seated position with the steering wheel is easy on the muscles.
