Post Light rig for hunting over dykes and impoundments
I just camoed up a little 1236 Duracraft and I'm lookin for a MM to hang on it. I hunt areas that require pulling over dykes. I'm trying to set up a light rig so easy to pull over. Anyone running a light rig? I need advice on purchasing a MM.

I had a friend that bought a 23hp dixie and had problems with it right out of the box. Belt wouldn't stay on.

when I went by there the new owner was showing me some kind of nylon bushing and saying they have made a lot of improvements. I would like to believe him, but I can't find a lot of positives on DMM.

Get a copperhead.. Don't mess with any of the other non reputable companies such as Dixie, orion, etc. Or get a small longtail.. would be cheapest route just way slower

Ive also found momentum and speed actually helps a lot with smaller boats and getting somewhere with the smaller motors... they don't have enough power to power through the nasty stuff sometimes.. you've gotta keep momentum.. Making the copperhead the better of the choices between longtail and SD

I'd lots rather lay down some PVC pipe and jump that shit than pull over it

I've been winching in a 1548 G3 with a 40hp tiller Yamaha. I just sold the pos boat. I'm tired of heavy boats. It's hard to hide those big boats in there, not much cover

We've got permanent PVC rollers, but its a pain in the ass.

It would take some balls to jump it. Probably 16 to 20ft on low tide.

If you can pull a 15 foot boat over it a big block mud motor on a mud hull will jump it no problem.

I got a light setup and my winch is 3500lbs. Just a couple days ago I winched it up a 10 foot river bank close to 90 degrees. Get yourself some 1/4 inch synthetic and a Bruce anchor and have at it. I put a small 12 v battery up front and the winch came with a remote with 15ft of cable. I can do about 6-50ft pulls before I have to start the motor to charge the battery. Keep a spud bar on the boat in case the Bruce won't grab

Woodie - the top of the dyke is about16ft higher than the water outside the impoundments at low tide. There is no jumping it. We have a nasty 6ft tidal fluctuation.

Trouser - I have a 3000 lb wireless winch. I need it even for a light boat since I usually hunt by myself. That anchor idea is something I will try.

Looks like something is a little out of wack.

I know a guy that had a 12 and broke a belt at 5 hrs and another one at about 15 then put a 18hp belt on it and changed the pulleys or something to accept the bigger belt and hasn't had a problem out of it.

I'm guessing you hunt Rhett's. there is no jumping anything into it. The levee is a little different than ppl think. Get you a 1640 with a 23 surface drive and a winch if you don't have a tight budget. If you do get you a 1436 with a 16 long tail. Speed accomplishes nothing there.

FYI to ppl saying go big: 25 hp limit
