23hp Copperhead on a 1542 Grumman Scrambler Jon
Quick review for any guys looking for a smaller jon boat setup.
2016 Copperhead 23hp (stock, c-12 prop) on a 1990 1542 Grumman Scrambler (220 lbs). Really happy with the setup. Had some split bench seats and grab bar installed. It is a nice open layout. Normally hunt 2 guys but 3 and a dog is still definitely possible and pretty comfortable with boat stabilizers. Normally hunting smaller water on the Mississippi River.
Solo: Me (190 lbs), 6.6 gallons of gas in rear, lawn mower battery in rear, dry box with some tools, 3 inflatable life jackets and a push-pole. 28-29 mph shallow/deep water. ~4,200 rpm
2 Man Hunt Load: ~190 lbs per guy, Same gear as solo plus 2 guns, 2 blind bags, 2.5 doz decoys, duck blind, 2x4 stabilizers, 2 mojos and 3 pulsators. 23-24 mph deep/shallow. ~4,000 rpm
3 Man Hunt Load: ~190-200 lbs per guy, Same gear plus 50lb lab and extra gun and blind bag. 20 mph deep, 21 mph shallow. ~3,850 rpm. Definitely noticed the boat planed faster and sat higher while running in shallow water.
