Not sure what you mean by a tall transom LT. Long tails come in something like a 76" or a 52" shaft. The shorter being what they call the crawfish model. They are both designed for a short transom.

Re: Tall Transom LT on Short Transom Boat
To clarify.......... Looking at buying a longtail with an 85" outdrive.. This is designed for a transom height up to 21". My transom is 16"...(so an outdrive at 72" is recommended) I've talked with several people who tell me that using this setup is OK. it just pushes the boat flatter, since the length of the tail sits deeper in the water. I'm looking for input from guys who may have used a setup similar to what I am considering... Hope that helps....

i have this setup and it works great. the guys at MB said it actually gives the boat more pop out of the hole shot in the shallow stuff. go for it.

Re: Tall Transom LT on Short Transom Boat
I used this setup for a while and then I built my transom up another 4 inches. You will not lack any performance, but on some boats you will not be able to get the prop out of the water or all the way up depending on if you have built in seats in your jon boat or not.

Re: Tall Transom LT on Short Transom Boat
You should actually get a flatter push from it, if it's the other way around the motor will push upwards too much, causing the boat to nose dive a little and you will lose speed.
