 Longtail...home made
Hello everyone! Sorry to barge in, but for my English (I use google translation). My name is Ionut, and live in Europe. I have a question, but a problem: -I want to build a long tail, and I could not agree me with some dimensions, considering that I bought a 13 hp OHV engine (32 kg), and the mirror of my boat is 52 cm (20.8 "). Thanks for any suggestions, and once again I'm sorry, not certain that I barged into this topic.

 Re: Longtail...home made
Thank you sir! Tested with a picture to make myself understood. The back of the boat has a height of 52 cm, and by this I do not know how long his tail is!

 Longtail...home made
The length of the shaft does not change due to transom height. The angle of the cavitation plate changes. The actual driveshaft is normally 72".

 Re: Longtail...home made
Am I the only one here that thinks that universal joint is a really bad idea to sling around at 4,000 rpm?
Also, welcome to the forum Corsarul! Where exactly are you from? What do you plan to use the boat for?

I understand! I have a few questions please -How many degrees is a right angle? -How many speeds would need to be the propeller? Thank you very much!

 Re: Longtail...home made
90° is a right angle. Im not quite sure I understand the issue with the u-joint. 72" shaft. Ideal transom height. Is 15-17 inches. 38cm-43cm. 55cm/21½inch transom will work but you'll have to adjust your cav. Plate accordingly

 Re: Longtail...home made
Subscribed. Coupe did this guy draw your avatar? You have a 20 inch transom so you will need a 72 inch shaft for better performance. Also like coupe said you will have to adjust the cavatation plate accordingly. Also do not skimp on the materials to build the setup...... I know how you foreigners like to save a buck . Wish I had a name like that. After I finish on a girls face I would say " Ionut on your face". Google translation, have fun with that one

 Re: Longtail...home made
52cm = 520 mm = 20.4 inches. Shaft length (not housing length) Should run around 1500 mm to 1750 mm. This is the distance from the universal joint to the end of the shaft. The housing will be shorter to accommodate the universal joint and the propeller and propeller nut, etc.

I'm pretty sure China ships to Romania with that being said, get you one of those longtail kits. You'll be ok and all issues answered. For a extra 100 bucks you can purchase a lifetime supply of trolling motor props!

Not trying to be a dick guys but we should probably keep the joking to a minimum because if its translating for him like its translating for us we are just going to confuse the hell out of the guy you know what I'm saying

 Re: Longtail...home made
Ionut, will you use this boat in the river? Will the propeller be hitting rocks? Will you go threw weeds? If so do not get the SPS or any Asian setup if you were thinking about it.

 Re: Longtail...home made
That angle that you have a question about you will have to try different angles. If the propeller wants to go too deep in the water you will raise the angle of the plate. If the propeller is coming out of the water you will lower the angle. That plate that you have a question about in English is called a " cavitation plate". Some cavitation plates are adjusted by bending them with a crescent wrench. Others like mine are adjusted by putting shims under them to change the angle. If you have not gotten a cavitation plate yet look at backwaterinc. They sell cavitation plates. Also the longer the shaft of your motor ,the better the performance will be. What is the diameter of the shaft you are using?

Looks good. You can put shims under that one to change the angle. ACesta va lua unele compensam

 Re: Longtail...home made
I had a mud motor with an aluminum propeller. They lasted only minutes. As soon as you start hitting weeds they will break. Really think about a stainless steel propeller. From the looks of your river it will last you years

 Re: Longtail...home made
Good evening! Today I buy housing length.... but the shaft.
I was thinking to make ends three roller bearings with a seal and a bronze bushings middle floors.
Or else: three bronze bushings .... two ends and one in the middle.

Do you speak other languages?
A translator is never accurate. Guys, if you have to say something... use simple words when you can. It is easier to translate

 Re: Longtail...home made
Hey bud, I did this a few years ago and its hard trying to build something youve never seen. 3/4 inch shaft is the easy way to go. Use a hilmarine prop or email back water inc they are very helpful. Im happy to give you spl the dimensions of my motor if thats what you need to make a start.
