Thanx
Finishing up the skeg right now, then ill clean and paint, fill her with greese.
Gotta shim the motor up a lil higher before its final bolt down.
But shes turning out nicely considering it started out as junk in someones yard.
I have around $300 total investment.....cant beat that,as long it will work as intended.

I was a good boy
Ordered a $80 18-26 intek muffler, modded and clocked the flanged.
Suby muffler priced way too high.
I may eventually drop this muffler 3 in lower.

First test ride was a sucess.
No adjust ment needed on the cav plate.
I need to work on govner and carb linkage.
Im only able to get 60% throttle.

Solo i run 2050 rpm 20 mph,if i surface drive her i get 22 mph 2460 rpm.
Not bad in my opinion.
2 adults i drop to 18 mph,sd her and 21 mph.

Im really happy with her.but i think a 16-17 ft boat would better suit her.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Shes looking like a proper longtail now.....but on an ugly boat with a hook in the bottom.
25 yamaha only pushes her 30-31 mph.
So 20ish aint bad for what i have invested.

Do you have a light bar mounted on the back of a motor that doesn't even have reverse?

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Is theres a rule about having light bars mounted on motors without reverse....lol.
Its a 1/2 in x 6 in led strip,i intended to use it as a nav light, but i see its kinda bright .
Brighter than expected.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Navigation light should be higher than that

Author:  cb5331 [ Mon Feb 27, 2017 10:36 am ]
Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Also has to be 360 view and not blind people behind you. Not even close to a legal navigation light. On top of just looking stupid, that light serves pretty much no purpose on a rig that has no way to propel itself in that general direction.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Ill plan on a 360 degree to put ontop air cleaner.
Theres nothing wrong with having a rear light on a boat that doesnt propell itself in reverse.
If i want to light up behind me for fishing at night,or just to light up the area behind me.
So its stupid because you see no purpose for it.

Thanx for your opinion.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

It looks great.I like that you out performed the 25hp kohler that use to be on that boat and you did it with a smaller prop less horspower and less rpm.

I think a rear light could be useful when stuck in shallows.
What I think it stupid is negitive comments.
All the work seemed to pay off.You used a generator engine most deem un worthy of efforts.Scrap steels.Mixed maych parts to get the job well done.

Thanx

My atv doesnt have a rear work light or reverse light, guess ill be busy disabling reverse this weekend.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

That would make about as much sense as running a blinding, rear facing light bar instead of a legal nav light. Would definitely fit the pattern of brilliant decision making.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

It was a mistake,i dint think it was that bright when i tested during the day time.
I rode for a total of 30 mins, potientialy blinding people behind me.
I met up only 1 other boater in a sd,my appoligies to him.
After i used it.it is flexable and if it was up to par id wrap it in a 360 .
I clearly stated it was too bright to be used a my intended purpose.
Im very sorry if i hurt anyone here,or out on the water.
I have a proper light now.
Thank you for the input.

I agree it is too bright for a nav light, plus it isnt viewable 360 degrees.only 180.
Its nowere bright enough to be a blinding light bar that will disable other boaters behind me.
It is pointing downward toward the water while riding.

To relieve your concern, ill be running my big bad rear light bar on its own switch, new coast guard approved rear 360 view dim nav light along with coast guard approved bow light on its own switch, and my front lights on its own switch.
Ill label switch for front lights foward, because they point towards the direction the motor propells the boat.
Any suggestions for label for my rear ,non reversing motion light?
I was thinking stupid.....or useless.

Today i fix throttle for full travel,2000 rpms loaded is all she can do,anything more than 3/4 throttle is wasting fuel.
So i guess my next step is smaller wheel.....or a different boat.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Sounds like you need a smaller wheel.
What are your rpms with a light load?

Author:  igotit [ Wed Mar 01, 2017 7:05 am ]
Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

1950-2000 rpm lite load,2adults same rpm 17-18 mph.
Not complaing....its good speed but i want rpms a little higher.
My wheel is stamped 9x5 but previous owner stated it was worked a 9x6 with cup job.
My first test ride my rpms were a lil higher.

Author:  igotit [ Sun Mar 05, 2017 7:03 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Put on a older 9x6 mudboat wheel last night, has more holeshot and brings rpm to 2060 solo 20 mph.
I have another unidentified wheel to try, looks to be around 9x4.....but its kinda beat and well wore out.
Ill try that out by next week.

If all else fails im comfortable like she sits,i never have more than 2 people in my lil boat anyway.
90% of the time im solo with a fishing outfit load.

I did run into thousands of coots sleeping in the lillies last night, went searching for frogs.....but didnt find a single one.
Edit
Thankfully i had a rear light,i caught a rope tied to a log in the prop.
I was able to use my paddle to slowly get it out.

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

You probly blinded the rope and It could not see to get out of the propellers way.

Very possible

Post subject:  Re: 22 suby project

Found out my rpm/prop issue.
Guy i got the prop from claimed this was a 9x5 worked to 9x6 with cup.
Turns out its a 9x6 worked to a 9x7 with cup.
So id need around 30 hp to get above 3k rpms.

So when i get ahead on cash or find the right trade,i think a 9x5 will suit my rig just fine.

Previous owner of prop had this wheel on his 16 vanguard mudboat and complained cuz he only got 16 mph solo,12 mph loaded.
He was told he needed a bigger wheel,i told him he needed a smaller wheel......he sugested he needed a 10x10 wheel.
So i didnt debate it any further and got the wheel.
I really felt sorry for his lil 16s future.

Today i had her loaded with 2 adults,a 15 year old,90 lbs of crabs and fishing gear.....16 mph at 1850 rpm.
I really need a 9x5 wheel.......im hoping i wont lose my speed by going to the right prop.
