5.5 home made surface drive

 5.5 home made surface drivei just bought this motor and put it on my 10' jon i was thinkin it would FLY but no it went prolly 5-6 mph the belt sliped a little bit but if you pull and push in on the prop it will go in and out.....need some help or advice |

Re: 5.5 home made surface drive 5.5 will not make a 10' boat fly. I built a 13 hp SD for a 12-14' boat and was able to get about 15 max. What type of drive setup does it have? V-belt, chain, cogged timing belt? I used a cogged timing belt from Gates. Check out their timing belt website there is a lot of info there. Also, try to figure out what gear reduction (if any) you have. Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: 5.5 home made surface drive I'm not sure what the stipulations on "flying" are, but here is a 6.5 hp surface drive pushing a 1236 15-16 mph.
