That's what it's for. :? You need to put something in between the skeg and bottom of the boat to keep from tearing a hole, but that is the whole reason for the swivel bracket

I have the swivel bracket, but i haul it hangin out the back for more storage in the boat.

You may want to build some type of transom saver to reduce the shaft bouncin.

Here is the one I built, i took a peice of 1 1/2" 1/4" wall pipe.
I drilled holes in each end and ground a "channel" for the skeg in one end.
Pin one end into a short peice of channel iron bolted to the trailer and the other to the skeg.

bungee down the tiller and it ties all together really strong.

I swing mine into the boat during travel down the road. I made a bracket out of two 1x4's and a couple pieces of 1/4 inch plywood. This way the it fits down inbetween the 1x4s and doesn't sit on the floor of the boat.

The whole point in the swivel bracket is to put the motor in the boat or the shaft part anyways. Cut you out a little square out of 3/4 plywood and put it under the skeg and you'll be absolutely fine!

I personally never saw the point of one of those swivel brackets. The handle is just about as long as the shaft. I think the handle is less than a foot shorter than the shaft thus making very little difference. Maybe if you had to make it fit into a garage but thats about it. Plus it picks the engine up higher on the transome and therefore loosing performance. If you have a short shaft motor it looses even more performance due to the angle at which the prop is in the water. I find just using a ratchet strap and looping it aroud the handle works fine.
