i have a 14ft xpress duckboat, year is unknown but probably between 2000-20003. a friend of mine is selling a 16 hp vanguard go devil long shaft. How fast should that motor push my boat? |

15-16 empty 11-12 with two lil guys Anything more than that it will just plow. |

Probably 35-36 mph in deep water....~40 mph in the shallow stuff. |

woodiebuster im not really savvy with mud motors but a local kid is selling a 16hp go devil vanguard with the swivel mount bracket and 35 hours for 1400. would that be considered a steal? sorry if i sound like a dumbass askin all of these questions but liek i said im new to the mud motor world |

1. That Isn't too bad, but not great. 2. The GD swivel bracket throws off the angle the prop hits the water and affects performance with a short transom, match that with a tall transom boat and its not good news. One option is to cut down the transom and run it, but you will waste a good boat. My advise- get a slick bottom mudhull matched to that motor or even a new 23hp, it will run 2x better. Where are you from? |

yeah id hate to cut up a boat like that, but yeah he may let me put it on and test run it on my boat so that will be good, im from charleston sc but am at school at clemson university right now |

Those speeds are right, had a buddy with that same motor, in shallow water you will run around 14 with two people, deep water its like 13 or so, with two people and my 20 hp on a 14 by 36 i can run right at 16 to 17 gps with a small hunting load and boat blind, I would deffiently either cut transome and ruin boat alittle over driving with tall transom if you must, his was a tall transom and wrong motor and was a pain to keep motor in the water. |

is there no way to adjust the angle of the shaft or something to help it ride better? id be very hesitant to cut the transom like that |

Nope, its all about the angle in the water, they sell a longer shaft for the tall transome motors to counter act the extra 4 or so inches of transome, i believe it to be somewhere in the range of 88 inches or something close to that instead of 72 on the normal ones. |

I would put a surface drive on that boat, say 23 to 27 hp and roll with it probably close to 22 to 23 mph with two people empty and close to 20 or so with gear and all |
