Re: long tails better for hunting?
First off - you would have to start by asking the definition of STUCK... Many here will NEVER admit to getting stuck cause they eventually got home, after the use of 2x4 / winch / 2 other boats / helicopter ride... See this thread -- viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1912&p=19884#p19884

It all depends on where you run. I would rather have the power of a short tail when coming out into the big water when the wind picks up. A ST is more versatile IMO.

It's hard to beat a good longtail, but prodrive motors that have reverse can get out of some bad mud really quick too.

Re: long tails better for hunting?
To each there own, its all about personal preference and location, My LT would without a doubt got into shallower water with a hard bottom than my PD does, ( something I had to get use to) the longer reach of the LT could help or hurt you ( like trying to turn around in a tight spot with high banks) They all have there strong and weak points, I personally don't miss the pain in my shoulder after a long run or having to constantly man handle the motor when trail busting, I do miss the reach in the stumps, that was nice.

Re: long tails better for hunting?
Reech in the stumps is the only + in a lt. But a short can get enough momentum in a short distance to take care of that problem As for as digging out of mud a 2 foot hole and i'm back on step!! couldn't give me 3 of them Lt's!!

Re: long tails better for hunting?
Many of us had LT's and made da switch to surface drives. The only advantage I really had with a LT is running hard bottoms. with shallow water put other than dat my GTR has went through way more sh*t than my old LT would have.

Re: long tails better for hunting?
the diffrence is shortail if you have a good deep mud then short tail is good man, and vegatation short tail will eat it up but it depends on the set up.. if you have a good boat with a good longtail ur practically un stoppable... the longtail is a beast on hard bottoms and jumping logs so it comes down to this, long runs, marsh , soft bottom.. go with a shortie... mid-short runs, hard bottom, logs, and if your in good enough shape to get worked by the long tail.. then theres your choices.
