 New to mud motors
I recently bought my first LT mud motor and was looking for some answers to some questions. How often do you need to change the seals on the shaft and how often should i grease the shaft? Any input would be appreciated

 Re: New to mud motors
Welcome to mm-ing! I started with the first "toy", and that was a Go-Devil, back in '89. Coco told me he would change out his bearings and seals twice a season- guess he drove it hard. I used to carry my grease gun with me because of the grease loss. It's something you have to monitor. I've had a MB LT since 2004 and it uses a lot less grease. You don't want to over-lube it because that pressure could also damage the seals. Depending on the motor, there should be a "relief port", usually mid-way on the shaft housing. I open this when greasing the shaft and usually stop when the grease begins to ooze out, sometimes preceded by water. Check your owner's manual. If there is significant grease loss or more than say, 1/4" play on the prop end on the shaft this usually indicates time to change the bearings. Go-Devil, last I saw, uses bronze sleeve bearings while MB uses roller bearings. Wear your kill switch lanyard, use a pfd, get plenty of stick time, and let us know how the maiden voyage goes! Above all, have fun!
