Would like to know if this would be the right size to put on a 12x32 jon boat ? I'm new to long tails so I don't wount to go too big . I did run a 6hp mud buddy ahd it just didn't get it done .

There is no right size longtail for that boat. You should start over.

I have that motor on a 16'x38" Scott Duckboat and it is just wide enough to float the weight at the stern. Putting a 16 GDLT onto a boat 4' shorter and 6" narrower is likely to have the transom riding very low in the water.
The 6 hp MBLT may have seemed slow but it is probably about as heavy a rig as that size boat can safely balance.

It's approaching 25 years that I have been running mudmotors in Alaska. I have never had too much horsepower. More than once I have had too little boat. Start by looking at the loads you want to carry (including the weight of the motor) under the worst case conditions. Get a boat that will satisfy that criterion. From that point the choice of motor boils down to how fast do you need to go and what will the wife allow you to spend. I think your boat is 4 feet short and 10 inches narrow, but I'm old and have gotten more conservative over the years.

Thanks for the replys . It's seems that motor wt. is the thing here , so how about if I put pods on the boat will that do it ? I do need the speed as I have a 2-4 mile ride .

take the $400+ you would spend on pods, and set it aside. Sell your rig you have now or just outright buy something larger. I bought a 1436 with trailer and outboard for $500, sold the outboard for $300 and was only $200 in on a nice little rig to handle a 16hp.

I wouldn't run the 16 on that boat. The 16 is pretty heavy and it would actually be faster on a longer boat.
Something like 14x42 or 15x42.

Sorry I need to ask again because it's not a 12x32 . It's a 12x36 will this make a difference ? I'm looking for fast safe but fast . I don't hunt out of it I just go to and from my sika spots .

No difference. The hull is too short to ever get a mm to perform worth a shit on it.

So what would be a good size for speed and that motor ? Just asking because I can get a great deal on the motor .

Ok I need to ask would a 14x48 be the thing to get ? Like I said I'm new to this and need to get it right this time ! I started out with a kiyak (no room ) then I got a 10ft jon with the 6hp Too small was like rideing a jet ski . Then went to a 12ft jon with the 6hp mud buddy , too slow ! Went looking for a bigger motor and found the 16hp godevil . Seems to be a great deal at $1000 . I need to stay small because I go out a ditch with a lot of turns to get to the ponds . What would be a go combo ?

1448 is better than a 1236. Decent little boat for a 16, lots of people running that setup. Won't be fast and will push water with any kind of load, but nothing that small (boat and hp), and on that kinda budget is going to be very good.

I run a 16hp on a 1436. I would love to have a 1448. The 1436 gets dicey in the left turns when your ass hangs over the side of the boat.. I get about 15hp with me in it, with 3 guys and duck hunting load you are looking a 7-8mph range. Its gotten through everything i have thrown at it... I really think the extra 12 in on the bottom would make a huge difference, yet reduce speed... Mine is rivetted and I put stellflex on the bottom. Steelflex is great stuff, but it has chipped and cracked from the way i have had to winch it on the trailer in these low water conditions....

Longtails run best on a long, skinny boat. My 16 x 38 will do around 21 / 22 mph with a 23 longtail. Go with AT LEAST a 16 ft. boat

Ive heard long and skinny for a longtail but i love my 1242 if its just me or 1 other person and light load but it fslls on its face with 3. If u run solo alot i would look into 1242, its light and stable. Im not sayin longer aint better because i havnt tried it but i personally woulsnt wanna go skinnier than 42
