Post subject:  Buying my first mud motor and boat

I am looking for some help i am 22 and will be purchasing my first motor and boat and it will be a mud motor with the right boat to go with it. I went to my closest boat dealer (i am located in Michigan) and all they did was try to sell me the most expensive set up they could. I have doing some research myself and have really taken a interest in the back water S.W.A.M.P. series with the 6.5 and up to the 18 and i have also liked the Dixie surface drive ranging from the 6.5 to 16. For the boat i am looking at the Dixie 14ft with .100 metal thickness any help will be greatly appreciated

Videos i have seen on the swamp motors look pretty sweet. I recently just put together my first mud rig with '10 6.5 Go devil LT and threw it on an old 80's 14 foot v hull guide boat. was pretty happy getting 8 to ten mph out of it with two guys n light gear at the end of duck season. My plans are to upgrade hulls before next season and ive been looking at the go devil boats as well as phowler and dixie. all depends on your price range and what your usage will be. I do like the looks of the phowler 14X40 though. As i said im planing on upgrading hulls before season and then eventually swapping out motors down the road. point being don't be afraid to start small and work your way up. First time i got my rig on the water even my little 6.5 felt awesome, cant beat the freedom of your own rig. Good luck, hope you find the right rig.

Buy as big of motor as your budget allows. I wouldnt go smaller than a 16.
