1648 Lowe W/35 GDLT
Is it reasonable to put this set up together? I have the boat, and am getting a smoking deal on the motor. Will this work and will the boat live with a motor that big?

Re: 1648 Lowe W/35 GDLT
It's a riveted boat and I know most everyone is running welded. I am going to give it a try and see if the boat will hold up. Probably have to run alot of weight in the front to keep it somewhat balanced. Any idea on what the 35 GDLT weighs?

What's the advantage to running a welded boat. They are heavier which doesnt seem to be an advantage in the mud?

Re: 1648 Lowe W/35 GDLT
It is a stronger built boat! My welded 16' slick bottom boat will slide easier than my old 14' riveted boat. And it will last a lifetime. Rivets will eventually waller out and start to fall apart

Re: 1648 Lowe W/35 GDLT
We have a 1978 Lowe 14'x48 Jon, bought it 10years ago it has had a 50hp Merc.Outboard on it, 35hp Johnson,15hp Evinrude, 18hp Mudbuddy Hyper, an 18hp GD modified Crawdad LT, and now a 29hp Modified GD Crawdad Lt, and it hasn't sprung a leak yet. Rivits handle the flex of the hull better than welded hulls. Also easier to fix with out having to weld them. If a rivit leaks, just put a hammer against it, and hit the other end with a hammer. Ever seen a bridge put together with just welds?

Re: 1648 Lowe W/35 GDLT
Willtodo, We bought the 14'X48 Lowe Set up with that motor on it, it really went, it had steering consol in it then., Since then we have developed a need for speed with our Outboard powered Jon boats, We are currentlly running a 18'x72" Highly modified Sea Ark Jon, With a 225HP Johnson Venum setting on A hydralic Jack plate, also has hydralic steering. It is turning a 4bld 24px15.25 Bravo one prop at 5800rpm. It runs in the high 60s and is kind of squirrley at WOT. But it hauls a lot of goose decoys and gets there in a hurry. This rig will run right along side of my 29' Envision with 517hp 502 .

Re: 1648 Lowe W/35 GDLT
i have a 1648 grizzly boat... i had a 23hp gdlt and it did not push my boat.... it only ran 8mph with one guy... i have a 18hp motor for spare so i switched out motors and i got 10mph out of the 18hp.. so i sold the GDLT and bought a 36hp prodrive and it pushes my boat 25mph with three big guys.....
