![Post Post](./styles/acidtech_tiger/imageset/icon_topic_latest.gif) Prop selection
I have a GD 18hp longtail with a 9x6 prop on it now which is wore down to 7 3/4 inches. I think it is time for a new one. Should I go with the same size? I mainly ride in deep water and shallow grass. Not much sloppy mud around here. Just wondering what ppl think about it. Still havent been able to get it off yet! Trying for 3hrs now! Thanks Chris.

You will get the best performance with the prop the engine is designed to run with. The go devil website says the 18hp should run the 9x4. I run a 9x6 on my 23lt.

I tried to order a 9x5 from him... didn't ship after about 5 buisness days. Emailed them to cancel and they took care of that within the hour. If they shipped as fast as they canceled they would have had my buisness. Not too impressed.... Wound up ordering from Beavertail.

In my opinion, anything you buy for a Go Devil should be from a Go Devil dealer. All their parts are tested by go devil for go devil. You cant go wrong. Just my .02. Ive tried other props and stuff and its just not quite the same performance.

When I bought my 23 lt it had a worn out prop on it. I ran it like that for a few months and was actually happy with it. I decided to get a new prop when I changed the shaft, u-joint, upper bearing assembly and all that stuff. I couldnt believe the difference the new prop made. I had to re-adjust my cavitation plate and the skeg to keep the motor straight when at wide open throttle. It was a world of difference in pure mud.

29mph...Gotta know the secret! Everyone I talked to said the new prop will be like night and day. Ive had my motor for about a year with the worn prop and i am getting around 16mph with it. I drive a 1648 Xpress. Any tips on getting more power out of it? Besides selling it for a bigger one. Hopefully that will happen next year. I am turning about 3590 RPM in water and about 3890-3900 out of water.

Naaah that was a lil joke about the speed. My 23 was on an 1836 Charles Leonard skiff with steel flex on the bottom and it ran 21 mph on GPS with me (195#) and 6 gallons of gas. That was with the new prop at 3680 RPM.

The steelflex made a big difference in grass, lillies, and mud. Didnt change the speed or anything in open water. I see on here that alot of people put frog spit on their boats. Im not sure about it, but when I ordered my steelflex from Fasco industries, they told me that steelflex was designed for aluminum boats and frog spit was more speciffically for fiberglass applications. Dont know if thats true, but I had really good results with steelflex and if I do it again thats what it would be.

10-4 Hoping it will get on plane a bit easier. Whoever put a new transom on it before I bought it left a bead of weld and a hook in it I filled in that was about 1/4"-3/8". Hopefully it did the trick!
