Looking for a boat, found a 17' flat bottom with no trailer. Guy wants 250 bucks for it. I'm building a 13hp predator longtail, will I get any kind of decent speeds with that big of a boat?

That is a great price for that boat. Will 13 HP push it? of course it will. You will think that you have died and gone to heaven. will bigger push more? of course it will. However, is it worth the next incremental dollar to YOU? Maby some day.

Great find! Of course it will work, not ideal but remember the fable about the tortoise and the hare. If it is a short transom great, if not, it will be bearish to drive. When you morph to more horses, you will be in longtail heaven! Heck, they are putting small block engines in full sized pickup trucks today, don't let your peers sneer at you! Tweak your throttle, pack extra coffee, get up earlier in the a.m., and hold on to your hat!

Anything is better than walking. Just for comparison. A buddy of mine has a 13hp predator with a Thai kit. My 22hp go devil style is only 1 mph faster than his, but my boat is two feet longer and a foot wider

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Walking out is no fun, sawgrass, alligators, snakes, sudden holes underfoot in the coral rock...no sir, motor in/out. Don't forget the pushpole!
