I have a 14X36 flat with a 8hp motor on it.....I want to know if a 20 or 23 hp motor would be to big to put on my boat? If anyone is looking for a small motor that will trade for a big one with some cash pm me...

i ran my 23 mini on a 1436 for about two years, never had too many problems w/ it. just cant run WO alone, gets real squirrely. Ran well w/ 2 people and gear, but i always ran 3 ppl and gear. And, although unsafe i'm sure, i ran 4 people when the ducks were there.

i'm runnin a 20 gd on my 14/36 riveted hull. handles the wieght pretty good, becareful turning at slow speeds, water tends to come over the gunnels if you lean to far one way or the other, super lite rig i can drag the boat up on the bank and turn it around if i get in a cut and need to go back. hope this helps. i run either solo with the pup, or just 1 other person in the boat and the pup. speeds solo are around 18mph give or take , 2 people is 15 or so. if i tweak the rev stop i can get a little more speed, just dont want to push the old honda to hard. mine is a 2000 model

Thanks for all the info.. I just don't want to put a big motor and my boat sinks lol. A buddy of mine has a 12ft boat with a 23hp which i don't know how it floats lol I just wanted to know what was safe.
