looking to buy a new motor.
im looking to buy a new motor. i have a 1448 grizzley tracker, i dont really need a l/t but i just cant justify spending this kind of money on a outboard and tearing the lower unit off.
i have a guy locally selling a 2010 merc. 9.9 for $1500 with two hours on it with a transferrable warrenty, or a 16hp godevil for the same price. im kinda torn on what to do here, will either of these motors make enough power to push my boat loaded upstream? this is a hunting boat.

Re: looking to buy a new motor.
Is your boat welded or rivited? How much weight will it be carrying? how fast is the current you'll be running agains?
I have a 16 GDLT on my Rivited 1436 and it does pretty good. I'm such a big dude that I had to put pods on the back, and that seemed to help.. but I think the 16 GDLT is the way to go. I LOVE mine.

Your boat could carry a motor bigger than 16. However I have met Gee and he is indeed a BIG guy and he is happy with his 16.
The object is not to waterski with these things, it is to enjoy the moment and you will certainly be able to do that with your boat and the 16 HP

I'm pretty sure that 16 will probably push you faster.

Re: looking to buy a new motor.
I have had both. My first hunting boat was equipped with a 9.9 hp evinrude. It was ok, but I found myself looking at spots and wondering how i was going to get there. The minute I tried, I broke a drive shaft trying. I bought an 11 hp godevil at a garage sale for $100 and fixed it up. I was hooked from then on. I now own a 27 hp lt and have killed more ducks over the years, partly due to the fact that I can get into places that would have ruined an outboard. GET THE 16 HP GODEVIL. You will be glad that you did.
