any of ya'll have one with a longtail on it? I love the size of my 1638 GD, will get all in places those big boats cant fit. but I don't care for the cross box as I like open floors and also with the low sides and no side crimps and my fat ass in the back, water just rolls over the sides as you are running. Thinking of a 1638 rogue with maybe a huntdeck to upgrade to. Little more planing surface, side crimps, hiugher sides, and a place to piss off the back. I thought about an 1838 godevil which would be about same bottom as the 1638 with huntdeck but still have cross box and have to cut all that foam out. Heard the 1838 was like THE all around longtail boat. thoughts?

Have you considered a 44" GoDevil hull? You can get them with the split boxes and have a more open floor. The difference in beam width is 9" more than your 38"

I really like tge 38" wide. Love the godevil boats if he would make a commercial version without all that foam in it and wide open.

I had a 1638 with a 25hp mud buddy long tail on it. Long story short, I ordered a tall side rogue with a tall transom. When I got it, I figured out they built me a tall transom 15" side rogue. After talking to Kent, he offered me 2 things. He said I'll pay you the difference in what I over payed and a generous gift certificate to bass pro or he'd build me a new boat. Decided to take the new boat in exchange for my rogue. I got a 1644.

The rogue is a cool boat. They are skinny but very stable. I think he talks a lot of people out of them. They are a super specialized boat. If you run protected water with one other guy, not much of a load, and no blind on the boat they are great. It runs good with a long tail. On straight mud they move effortlessly. I was getting 18-19mph with no load in mine. You start adding weight is where they don't run as well. I ran the same motor on my 1644 before I got the 35hdr and had similar performance unloaded but the difference loaded down was very noticeable.

Kent is a great guy that stands behind what he builds. Talk to him yourself, guy knows his product up, down, forward, and backwards. My rogue is actually the one that those guys the mudbums use in their fishing videos.

Like was said, probably a good hull with an LT. I was looking on the GT site but did not see any pics or specs on the rogue models. An 1844 is probably what I would want; would love to test my 26.5 BW LT on something like that! What is the weight of the 1644 hull?

Yup! I did the 1436 with an LT for a few years and went bigger over the years...wish I could stretch my 1648. Even with an open hull, you can't ever have enough room.

Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

They are well built boats for sure and Kent will do whatever to make the customer happy. I've never seen any other boat besides a gator Trax but I'm sure the quality on any boat you buy is just as good. It's a demanding application which requires rugged built boats. and honestly after going from a 38 bottom to a 44, the width doesn't affect me that much with where I can get into. I can't remember but the rogue I think has a 63 inch beam. The 44 will hold a lot more weight compared to the 38.

When I got my 44 I wasn't thinking I was going to buy a surface drive so I didn't get the hunt deck. It would have been nice to do so. Or I would have stepped up to a 17'. But whatever, I'm happy with what I have.

I've read that guys with 16' with hunt decks were running Black Death motors on them. The extra length I wouldn't hesitate to at least strap a 35 on.

I had kent price me a 1638 laid out like i want it. At this time i dont plan to get a surface drive and if i do it would prob be a 23hp of some sort. My longtail does plenty fast for what i want. I just dont like the low sides of the godevil boat and the cross box. The thing that is eating at me is 1644 or 1638? I want something small and light enough to drag but fear i may be shooting myself in the foot not getting the 44 since it could handle a 35 shorty or longtail if i ever decided i wanted one. I hunt cypress swamps with a little river runs and cross short stretches of open water from time to time. Mostly ill be by myself or one other hunter. When my two girls get older they will be my hunting partners hopefully. Also i think my little souped up 3 cyl yamaha 25 would do some serious work on that little 1638 in the timber of AR.

44 is the way to go. There will be times you have that extra guy in the boat or you want to step up to a bigger motor. That 44 will go anywhere the 38 will fit. I've hunted 3 guys no problem. My boat is 21" sides and a 21" standard transom.

wonder how much slower the 44 would be over the 38

Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

I don't see there being a difference. The 44 will carry a load better.

Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

$300 more to go with 1644
$600 more for 21" sided 1644
$1000 more for 21" sided hybrid rake 1644.

Oh the choices.

25hp mud buddy with the 85" drive. best I ever got with no load was 17 or 18. same for the rogue. the motor was old and tired though.

Ive got a brand new 23 gdlt. It runs about 18-19 on the 1638 gd. Hit 20 once with a good tailwind. If a 1644 would do about the same id be happy.

Keep an eye out on here for a carb kit or a bps crossover used . You'll see 22-23 with that motor . Or go all the way and throw a cam and head work and 24-26 realistically . The power will stay there when toating a load as well. We have similar rigs. I've had about 5 different motors from a 9hp to the 23 on here

Huck i love the little 23. When warranty runs out im going to put mikuni and a mac on it. If my 1638 had bit higher sides id keep it. With my fat ass in the back water rolls up sides at back and makes me a hair nervous in open water. 18" sides with spray crimp i think would solve my problem. I just want to keep the boat light as possible

Right on , I've been waiting for somebody else to build for the 23's . Also look at the lectron carbs. Been hearing good things on the adjustable tuning.

My buddy built a 23 mini a few years ago. Carb, cam, crossover, heads, lifters etc. on a 1538 rogue it would give a stock 35 a run for the money. Ran 30 empty and 27 with hunt load. It was so strong, it kept tearing up that mini frame.

Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

Keep in mind comparing a 1644 go devil to a 1638 rogue is gatortrax measures there bottom different. That 38" rogue will be just as wide as a 44" godevil. And a 44" trax would be about a 50" godevil if they made one.

Trax does not include the chine as part of there bottom measurement, but that chine adds about 6" of bottom they way it's laid out.

Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

I did not know that about the bottoms. If thats the case then the rogue will be plenty. Only complaints about my GD is side height, not spray crimp and that cross box. Rogue would fix all those problems. Ive had it loaded to the gills and still ran 15.5. That much stuff in it was rare

Author:  rob_rides_03 [ Wed Jun 14, 2017 8:32 am ]
Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

he's right the 38 is measured in between the chines. a 44 is more like a 48 id say and a 38 is a 42

Author:  phoneman7 [ Wed Jun 14, 2017 8:39 am ]
Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

how about sides, are they measured the same on both? stability in my boat is fine, the side height is what bothers me.

Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

I have never even seen a rogue in person. but run with a lot guys with trax hulls. on average they are about 6" wider than the measurement listed, as far as the floor goes. They just measure there rounds different then others. The couple of custom hull builders I talked with follow in line with go-devil where they actually take the chine into account when measuring the bottom where gator trax does not. There 44" bottom is pretty much where the floor is and the gutters are just extra. You can put any sq chine 44" inside a 44" gatortrax no problem. Pretty sure a 54" sq chine would drop into gator trax 50" bottom

Post subject:  Re: gatortrax rogue

so in gator trax measurments my godevil would be a 1630. My buddy had that rogue but its been 6 years since he sold it. so I don't quite recollect width etc.

I even googled it to see what a GT Rogue was. Cool boat. If you got one post it up :D

Anybody ever hunted gators out of a boat this narrow? I'm a little apprehensive about going out in my 1836 for a gator this year but it's all I have...

I have hunted gators in a 1754. No way I'd want to be on anything less than a 42, personally.

Flint ours is the same here in SC. We got a depredation permit to kill some out of a buddies pond. I think we killed 9 or so. Ive been on the draw hunts. Get u a good heavy spinning rod with braid and a weighted trebble hook. Pull him up beside the boat and stick an arrow in him. Then a 44 or 45 between eyes and good to go. I hadnt personally drawn a tag but been a bunch. Tape that mouth shut asap and if his eyes are closed, he aint dead.

Here in MS, if you draw a gator tag in the right zone, you can easily find someone who is willing to furnish a boat at no cost other than they get to participate in the hunt.
