Reinforce transom / Mounting GD25
Greetings all! First post. Just got a new (to me) 25hp GD long tail and am getting ready to mount it on my 1548 SeaArk. Replacing a 30hp outboard. Do I need to reinforce the transom by welding an aluminum plate to the back of the boat? Should I replace the mounting screws that hold the motor on with bolts that mount through the transom? I don't want the motor to come un-clamped and fall off. Thanks.

Reinforcement should help but that transom should suffice, thru-bolt is a good safety idea and theft deterrent!

Re: Reinforce transom / Mounting GD25
Flint is right, the GoDevil manual states to tighten clamp bolts very tightly, that no thru-bolts are necessary- sorry I presently own a BW LT and my transom mount required bolts, and I did run GD's for years, and just had a senior moment...I do recommend periodically checking transom bolts because they can loosen over time/use, as the GD manual also states to check engine mount bolts. The only other advice is to definitely wear your kill switch and have fun!

Doubtful that it'll fall off just being clamped, but the thru bolts make it more difficult for someone to just loosen a couple clamps and walk off with your motor. It doesn't take much to do, and slows down would-be theft.

Not to mention the thru bolts keeps the motor from loosening off and vibrating sideways. Which reminds me, i still need to move mine back over and bolt it.
