Shaft movement
Ran the motor today (35HP with pipes and M-Carb) on a 1760 Lowe. Ran great for an hour, then started hearing a noise. Thought it was the upper seal and then noticed at the dock that the shaft had moved upward about an inch.
The movement also pushed the u-joint up on the engine drive shaft an inch.
Not sure why. Has anyone seen this and what is the fix? Do I need both upper and lower seals and then reset the shaft?
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Steve

Re: Shaft movement
I don't see how the shaft would move an inch without the prop or prop nut running up against the lower seal retainer. I can believe the joint walking up. This would through the angles off and put it into a major bind. Depending on what actually moved you may be able to move the joint back down into position and lock it in

Re: Shaft movement
Thanks Will. The prop nut did move up and is almost touching the lower seal. I'll try to loosen the u-joint and move it back down by hand.
I sent you this question at your shop also. Let me know what you think when you read my other question.
