Post 13 hp beaver dam longtail
I tried searching for what I was wanting to know but can't seem to find it. I have a 13hp predator with the beaver dam mud runner kit on my 1548 riveted jon boat. Haven't had it out much to do alot of testing but got a top speed of 18 mph this past weekend goin down river. That's plenty fast for duck hunting but for goin out during the summer months cruising up and down the Mississippi I'd like to be doin more around 25. Question I have is even with mods done to the motor is that even possible or should I plan on getting the 22hp predator? From what I've seen some aren't even getting what I'm doin now with the 22 up and can't understand why that would be.

It’s a longtail. Do you think that your expectations are reasonable? There will be a trade off of additional weight with the 22hp, and I doubt that it will meet the 25mph benchmark that you have. If that’s critical, you would be better served using the money you would spend on the 22hp and putting it towards a surface drive.

I would be happy to get those speeds in a 13hp longtail. What mods do you have?

Assuming those kits and sps are similar. I don't think you're far off on speeds with the little knowledge I have of them. My buddy's 1448 riveted jon does about 22-23 with a 22hp predator. He does about 20-21 on his 1432 jon with a very lightly modded 6.5 (they claim 10 or 11 with the stuff he has done, intake, carb, exhaust and timing key). What I've learned from here if you want more speed you need about 20k to buy a new boat and surface drive lol

Big bend I have no mods done to it. I'm new to all this so that's what I was wondering if that 25 mph was possible with any long tail setup. That was with 2 guys, beer cooler, 3 gallons of gas and just goin off a gps app on my phone. I'm thinking for the $100 for air filter and header I'll see where that gets me.

Frank I was waiting for someone to ask that lol. Yea I've been out in my smaller 12' homemade fiberglass duck boat but jusr stuck to the sloughs.

How does your boat not sink with your giant balls?

Robertson Torque Tube, intake, and jet would wake that motor up very well. I don't think you'd get 25 regularly, but would likely exceed it going downstream with stiff tail wind. Going back up in those conditions though would be SLOW. I had a 1432 with a 212 on an SPS with just those mods that got 22 once going downriver with some gear in it. Little scary in the small boat. On the way up that morning I averaged 8-12 depending on current. I wish I didn't sell that set up, was a great rig for little rivers.

Aknative that's what I'm gonna try out and see where that takes me.

Just gotta be smart and know where you can go.

I'd say your speeds are pretty good for a 13hp thai kit. I used to run a BDMR 1st with the predator 13hp, then with a 22hp predator. The 22hp wasn't alot faster, but it did have alot more torque.

I could never get that setup to work right with my 1542 mod v hull and had to constantly muscle it to the point of near exhaustion to keep the prop in the water. I finally upgraded to a SWOMP LITE glider and I couldn't believe how much easier it was to drive.

I was wondering if anyone else had that problem. I'll have forearms the size of Popeye by the end of the summer. I ordered a stage 1 hop up kit from NR racing today and gonna see where that goes.

When my 1432 was lighter and could make it beyond 16 MPH or so it would blow out. On the SPS you can adjust the balance by moving forward or backward on the baseplate mounting holes, not sure about Mudskipper. I don't have that problem on my slower boats, but when that 1432 was loaded light it was quick. Damn I wish I didn't sell it.

Well got the stage one hop up kit from NR racing put it on except the new timing key and valve springs. Same basic load minus 100# of person, had the girl with me instead of my buddy and hit 20 mph down river and less current. And I think the new jets are little rich.
