Does anyone know what this part is? I’m pretty new to longtails but I’ve been researching them for a while and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these (outlined in red). The engine is a 31 hp vanguard. |

It's really hard to tell from the pic but that looks like the casing that the air filter would fit it, not sure for sure because the pic is a bit hard to read, but from what I gather, that's what I would guess |

That is the air filter.... The older 31's had them. With the intake you have, You can take that whole thing off, and put a cone style air filter from an auto parts store. |

Bryce is right, unrestricted is always better, so you may see some tiny gains from taking all that off and going with the cone style |
