Post 27hp Backwater an absolute animal to drive
Talked with Jake and Arlon at Backwater. he said the motor should work fine on a tall transom boat.
BUT, that is not the case right now.
I tried adjusting the Cav plate, with no improvement in handling.
Prop doesn't want to stay in the water and keeps blowing out, speed is kinda low, not much push in shallow water.
Will be measuring prop this afternoon to see if its worn down.
Motor is on an aluminum 16x44 tin can hull, and bottom of hull is straight with no dents.

If prop checks out, is my only option to cut down the transom to 16"? If I do that, then I may not be able to spin the frame and put the prop into the boat.

I hear all the Backwater cheerleaders talking about how easy these are to drive, but NOT FOR ME!

Is it the full frame? If so, make sure the bump stop is adjusted so it is letting the prop dive plenty deep in the water. Prolly 2-3 feet. When I first got my full frame 35, I had the bump stop set so the prop was only resting maybe a foot deep in the water and it would always blow or just before it would plane out.

Is your prop in front of the "dirty" water that I have highlighted?

I had a time getting mine to do right also, but it was a 37 on a 20x60. Called Arlon and he told me to break shims in half and stack on top of one another and use the long bolts provided. It was a tall transom 20" with long shaft motor. It took me several hours to get it perfect, but super easy to drive and 21mph 2 full grown men 210 and 250 and that is true. Hope this helps.

Can yall tell me how "should" the cav plate be adjusted?
How should it be riding in the water?
I may be missing something, I'm not sure

See the pic I posted. Cavitation plate should be right at the surface of the water.
