tractor battery or group 24?
Backwater recommends a tractor type battery, like the Interstate SP-40, 350 CCA, weight 18.4 lbs. I am trying to shave some weight and space under the bow. I've been using a group 24 type Marine starting battery 650 CCA, weight 43 lbs. I only use the battery for starting my BW 26.5 EFI swomp longtail, running lights (LED) before daylight, and occasional bilge use. I use a handheld rechargeable spotlight so no further drain. Two SP-40's would still weigh 6 lbs. less than one 24. Anybody successfully using a tractor type battery? Any thoughts, suggestions are welcome!

It is a lawn mower engine.. most deck type mowers have that small battery you are describing. It will work, however, I run a small 12 volt cca battery for starting and the accessories you have.

Yep. No need for a big battery if you're only cranking and a couple of lights.

23hp backwater on my 15ft boat. I run the small battery also. Running lights, 2 interior led lights, bilge and 11 inch spot up on the bow. 2 years never a problem. Remember even if you loose juice to start...just hand crank the motor to get going.
