1844 GD hull for 40hp Swomp Lite?
Been running a 23 swomp lite for a couple of years now on a 1642 all-weld - can't say enough good things about it. Growing family calls for bigger rig. I want to pair a 40hp backwater motor with a mud hull with longitudinal ribs and .125 hull thickness. We have a lot of hidden stumps in the area I hunt and I'm tired of hooking the bottom right out of the gate. I'm debating between the 1644, 1656, 1844, or 1856 GD hulls. Thoughts? Experience? Any other brand recommendations for longtails?

I’d go 1844 out of all of those you listed.

44 or 56, longer is always better for longtails. If you're consistently hooking the hull, I'd strongly consider going on to the 3/16" instead of the 1/8". Some of us get by with the 1/8 because of how we run in stumps, some don't. Don't wish you'd have done it after you've spent the money.

I'm not consistently anymore, I avoid stumps at all costs. 10-15 years ago I was pretty ignorant though and treated a weldbilt like a stump jumper. Who would you recommend for a 3/16 boat?

If it's not consistent, the 1/8 will be fine with the longtail. I run stumps in a 1/8" 1748 with a big longtail, does fine. For my longtail though, it would run better with another ft or 3 of boat and it would like a bit more width.
Prodigy, Uncle J, Timber Creek, pretty sure prodrive does 3/16", etc. Plenty of options.
