Re: ATV's??????????
go with the 300 with no questions asked.....300's have been around for quite a while now so there are many different companies out their that offer aftermarket parts really cheap. This is without a doubt the best bike honda has ever produced. This bike is small enough for 1 person to yank out the mud but has enough power to cary a decent size load. It also has no electronics on it to break at a later date.A few options I would put is the disc brake conversion and probably a warn 424 unlocker. Buy it ,and you will thank me later.

Re: ATV's??????????
If you buy the 300 get the 424 ASAP! Warn discontinued them, but they are well worth the $300 if you ever plan on putting a DGL in the front.
I picked up a 98 300 this winter and really like it. Had a 450S before, but this 300 is a lot easier to get unstuck when your by yourself.

Re: ATV's??????????
You will be happy, I got a 96 and it don't miss a beat. I did just put a new rear chunk in it, but thats probably due to hopping the rear end trying to pull a trailer through 4 miles of ruts and water. Mine is all stock with a good set of super swamper tires and I have not been able to get it stuck yet.
