Post Lookin for a duck call.
Guys I'm having the hardest time choosing a new call for the season. I'd like to hear some reviews from you guys on the calls ya'll are using. I hunt the Louisiana Shell Island WMA so its big water area mostly. So I need to choose a call that will work for that. So give me some info on all brands RNT, Echo, Folies, Duck Commander. Acrylic call is what I would prefer.

RNT Daisy Cutter. If you can call then this is the one, if you can't then don't get it. It's a single reed that takes a good amount of air and control to master it but when you get it down there is none better.

One of the best calls for the price is Primo's original wynch that will cost around $20. Also, I have a close friend in New Iberia that makes custom calls from bamboo. They are good sounding calls and cost $80. I will let you listen to them when we get together and discuss the fabrication of my boat blind. There are many calls on the market that are excellent choices. When I used to pick a call, I would take approximately twenty calls and wittle them down to two or three of the best sounding calls and I would usually buy two of them (one for a backup). Unfortunately, it is hard to find a place that will allow you to do that now. I have another friend that is an excellent competition caller and when he was at Cabela's recently presenting a calling seminar, he found a call that a person makes and he claims it is the best meat call he has ever tried. I will find out the name of the call for you.

Id have to agree on the Daisy Cutter.. its a damn good call IF you can make it work for you. I got mine a couple months ago and it goes with me everywhere. Actually, i take my lanyard with me at all times 8-) I like to have a few calls when im hunting. First: RNT MVP in mallard green. Super loud for open water and windy days and unbelievably versatile. Super Hail calls to soft finish quacks, you can do it all on the MVP. Second: Daisy Cutter in Flo GReen. Super ducky and power on both top and bottom. Use it the most. Third: RNT Timbre in bois d'arc. Really snotty and raspy. Plus i just like the way a wood call blows. Fourth: a simple Duck Commander 5 in 1 whistle for widgeons and teal. And last: I keep a goose call with me just in case and to practice for when i actually get the chance at one. Its an acryli Primos Killa Honky Tonk. Dont do a lot of goose callin but i know this call sounds preetty damn good. And

The name of the call is Gumbo calls and they are located in Missouri. You can either e-mail or call Hunter Johnson @ prostaff@gumbocalls.net or 1-573-225-3625. They are in the process of making a tape so people can hear how the call sounds or he may call over the phone for you if you are really interested. Use my friend, Shannon as a reference. This is the guy that put on the calling presentation @ Cabela's and he lives in Bayou Gauche. This is where he met Hunter and he is really impressed with their call. The call's cost $125 and you can also call up their company on the internet by googling Gumbo duck calls.

Best duck call for your situation is an RNT Original.. Might be the best all around duck call ever made.. Don't want to spend the money on acrylic? Buy it in Cocabola.. Don't want to buy new? Find a used one on the Fuge.. Echo XLT is mighty nice too.. Daisy Cutter is good but it ain't for everyone plus it's real course.. Can't run a DC then have RNT bore a Short Barrel for you (this is what I do)..

Rail,
I agree, RNT orginal cocabola is the greatest all round duck call ever made over $50.00.

RNT short barrel for me. I make my own calls and can say there was no need for me to make a duck call. I'm very happy with my mentioned call and have no desire to change. I hit her a few times yesterday when hunting and she sounds very sexy.

I have a good amount of DC's and they all WORK. Easy calls to hunt with and the prices are reasonable. I have a RNT Timbre and love it as well.

I have been looking at buying the RNT original.

Decide if you want single or double reed, that will slim down your pickens real quick.

Also - if your hunting grey ducks, pick up Haydels Gadwall call, I have eaten plenty of meals thanks to that call

rotens vortex is prob my favorite call on my lanyard, you cant find them anywhere and i only know where 4 are, i have 2 and matt (white1) has 2.

i also like my rnt micro hen and the duck commander mule and classic always ends up in my hands too. i dont even care what lanyard i grab, all the calls i have sound good. i keep a primos wench in my truck just to play with when i watch duck hunting on the way home from work.
