Post New Season
As some of you know.My wife started racing last year. She placed 6Th out of 12 trucks. She is the only girl in her class. This is a dirt track beginners class. She did really well last year and talked me into doing some work on her truck. With help from my Brother and other sponsors. We pulled the engine that we thought was a 305 Chevy but turned out to be a 307 out of a 1970 El Camino.Well we scraped that engine and found a 350 4bolt main from a 95 Chevy. We completely rebuilt it and bought the largest 2 barrel 500 cfm circle track carb we could get our hands on.With all the power we decided on looking at more safety equipment and better track handling. So we added some more on the roll cage and removed some leaf spring on the rear. Then we put some stiffer shocks on the right and added some 8" wheels with 275 60 15 tires.I made her buy a aluminum racing seat and better safety gear.We have busted ass on the truck for over a month now.I do have to say it runs good.We lined it up against my 06 silverado 5.3 and it stayed with it real good.As much as i wanted to make some of the fun runs...I just had to finish this damn truck. Will post pics soon. ;)

The 350 will be one hell of an upgrade Cope. what gears is in the rear axle? Might want to put a lower ratio to get a little more UMMPH on the low side of the powerband.

Still running the stock gear ratio.I believe it is a 293 or 292.It is a Hwy gear that came in the 1986 Truck with a SB305...I dropped the valve body on the TH400 and blocked the 1st to 2nd shift valve. So it stays in low gear. She ran it last season this way and would hit 5600rpm in the strait away then let off to make the corner.I would like to see the 350 not run over 5500rpm so it will last for the season. :D

Looks good cope. Only BAD thing about the TH400 is the 2.48:1 first gear but with the new powerplant, thats not an issue anymore. What type of cam you got in there? I see lubed lifters in there so i am assuming a Hydraulic cam?
And LOL at the photos...

Well we learned a little after this weekends race. She has to learn how to drive a whole new animal. The truck has so much power that we can not keep the tires from breaking loose in the strait aways.I was swapping tires and lowering pressure after each race, but still could not get it to bite.I dropped the air pressure down to 9psi in the inside rear and 12 on the outside rear but it still would not bite. She spun out twice and had a hard time keeping it on the track.I am going to take more leaf spring out of the rear and add some weight in the bed for the next race.Out of 9 trucks she placed 7th...She was pissed!!! Like i told her.We finished with the truck in one piece and drove it back on the trailer...That's all that matters..We still have the rest of the season.
