 Re: 05 silverado......help!
Throw some gears and a torque converter in it get a tune and that will be a night and day difference, if you want more then its headers and cam, more then that then shoot yourself in the foot for not just getting a 6.0 from the get go.

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
a tune would def help. i would go to someone with experience in LS based motors though that way you can get the best bang for your buck. not all tuning shops are the same. some use different variations of tuning software andi have found that hptuners is by far the best program to run on any LS motor. goes into alittle more detail than some others. my boss had an 03 z06 vette witha p1sc procharger that we actually built a lq9 block that was punched to a 428 stroker. ran 9.92 in the quarter and thats what we tuned his with...
but none the less, hope ive helped in some shape or form...

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
Gotcha, I get carried away easily. If you think its something other then gears, at a minimum get it checked for codes more then likely it will be a evap fault and won't affect anything performance wise. But it's the first step to diaging your prob if there is one. Bring it to autozone i'm pretty sure they will check it for free or you can pick up a obd2 scanner for 50$

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
the 1st to second shifts are better with the vette servo... its a shift servo from the 4l60e in a corvette.

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
Gears, Tune, and PROPER exhaust (straight pipes are the worst performace wise for a LS motor unless you stay at 5500-6000 RPMS all day). Keep the stock exhaust and just replace the muffler with a flow through muffler of you choice and that will be fine up to 500 RWHP. Your biggest hinder is the lack of mechanical advantage once you hit over drive and the HUGE gap between 1st and 2nd gear in the 4l60e tranny isnt the best either.
SOme people reccomended a cam and converter, Yes they help power, BUt it will make the powerband HIGHER. If you want to pull your boat, and still have some jump to make a bigger truck move a little quicker keep it simple. 4.56 gears, a custom tune, and a good exhaust, and you will be satisfied with your truck. Then if you want more, get a FLT trans, Yank converter, and a cam to make power. Also make your the cam/ converte compliment each other.

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
The peppyness and the sluggishness is from Torque management. At times you get awesome power feel and other times its a dog.... Its GM's way of making the poor shitty 4L60E trans last. Seldom will a stock cat get plugged in a gm. Ohh and dont take them off without a tune. It will run like shit Stock cats on GM's are NOT restrictive so do all the old school blah blah cut dem cats off is a NONO....

 Re: 05 silverado......help!
I had an 04 GMC 4.8L single cab, thing was a turd getting on the highway and pulling, i put some Headman short tube headers, Super 40 flowmaster Hypertech III tuner and 410 gears in it with a shift kit, all i can say was that sucker would scream for jsut doig that to it. Your horsepower on GM motors comes around the 30mph, 2600-3000rpm mark is where i found most of my power stock, i put the 410 posi track with a locker in and i could peel your eyelids back at a dead stop all the way through the gears.
