Go with a custom boat for sure.....I am going that direction next year and plan to drive from MI down there so that I get just what I want.

As far as motor goes.
MB might not have their version on a reverse motor dialed in yet, but when they do....they are going to command the sales of mudmotors. They have the most aesthetically pleasing look of the three, you won't have to spin the outdrive around like a PD or grab some handle off a bicycle like the GT. They all buy the same damn motors from briggs so that is a wash, and aside from custom exhaust, there are only a couple options there.

When I bought my MB 6 years ago, its because I ran into a group of mudmotors on a river near my house and one of the guys was a rep for the regional salesguy. After a ride with them....i got serious about buying one. I don't think there are any GT dealers in MI and even so, I wonder how service would be for someone in the North?

I would deal with Andy (boatdr) if you decide on a MB....he'll take care of you.....and if there is 1 person that ***** doesn't want to piss off....its him.

Why wait. Here is a good deal for you with only 10 hours on the motor. Says 7K OBO. I am sure when you discuss the on going issues you should be able to get this for about 5K just so he can get rid of it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21379437413.452555.jpg

Post Re: MB Sport V - Give me a good reason why!
I had an Excel and a MB. I liked the combo for what it was. I had my motor modded with parts from PVT or parts that PVT had to re-work (IM heads). The Excel was nice but was full of unneeded storage, boxes, etc. I have heard all the horror stories about CS and agree they lack in that department but I dealt with BoatDR or my dealer in SC if I needed something that only MB had and they saved me a lot of headache.

As far as the new motors, they are a nice design and I think once they work the kinks out they will be good competition. My thing with the V is if you have ever seen one trimmed down completely, the freaking muffler will be inches from the water if not in it depending on load. The flat drive technology is good for Horizontals but not the Verticals. PD has that figured out already. My dealer had a V. It was nice but what I just stated is a proven problem because my dealers exhaust cracked from going hot to cold rapidly. It cracked and he didn't realize it until the head gaskets burnt up, resulting in the valves messing up.

I liked my boat but I see a GTR in my future with a custom hull unless Gator-Tail has quit using flat bar in the rakes of their boats.

Make sure whatever hull u go with has a nice comfy seat for your lil uptight candy ass.

Wear your kill switch thingy and life jacket....don't trash la's beautiful waters...

And don't forget to drink the koolaid in moderation.
Come to think about it.....
U prolly should just go with a lil academy hull and a trolling motor.
And..change out that tampon!

Ps....tell your wife I apologise, even though I never mentioned her bfore now.

I bought a PD in 08 from Peck. It has almost 400 hours on it now. I've had problems with it, but nothing that I couldn't fix myself with a little direction from Pro Drive. I've never called them that I didn't get help and if I needed parts, they have always been here fast. I only fish, but I go through some rough places to get to where I fish and an outboard will not hold up.

I was at Pro Drive one day talking to Peck and I asked him how they came up with such a tough design to start with. Here's what he told me.

He said that in the beginning they built some prototypes and gave them to some crawfishermen to use. The next day they came back with them all to pieces. They corrected the problems and gave them back to them and it took a few days before they came back with them all to pieces again. They kept doing this until they quit coming back all to pieces and that's when they decided they were on the right track so they started production and improving ever since. Made since to me.

Mud buddy will never " command the sales of mudmotors". Everyone is going to remember that they had a piece of chit motor when they came out and they have HORRIBLE customer service. I have delt with them a few times and none were easy. Can't ever talk to anyone. The dealers can't talk to anyone. Now gt on the otherhand, everytime I call down there I talk to someone. If they don't answer I will have a call within a hour or 2 (not 2 weeks). Everything I have asked them for they have have to me. And needless to say I have had no problems out of my motor (other than driver error). They could be selling a motor with a pure gold block for $10 and I wouldn't buy it.

A local dealer that I know very well said that he has sold 8-10 of the sport v's and EVERY one of them has been back to him getting something fixed. Broken drive shafts, leaking lower units, broken handles and broken trailering brackets. Need I say more?

Haven't you heard enough bad about these frames to not want to buy one?

But you never know. You might be the only guy out of thousands that doesn't have a problem with it. But don't hold your breath on that one.

F250....

you are correct there and maybe i just don't fully understand the handle on the GT. Do you have to hold the handle as you reverse the boat? If so.....is it difficult to go in any direction other than straight backwards without your arms getting all f'ed? like trying to dig out of somewhere....

I looked on GT website but still didn't see how it worked....

I will gladly take my previous comment back, but only about the GT.....still wouldn't own a PD

The new style auto-reverse on a PD is quick. Dang quick. I was in a GenIII EFI all weekend gator hunting and to put in reverse or forward literally took 2 or 3 seconds tops.
