I just got finished reading that whole colum of BullSh!t that people posted. Those arragant, black hearted, tree huggin, anti-drillin, obama lovin mother f****** really need to keep their comments to them selves at a time like this. I am also one of the ones that is out there several days a year not only in the gulf but all over the world including saudi arabia. And for them to say some of the things they said about us drilling in the gulf and we should send those rigs to those "scum bags" over there and polute their back yards. Well I'm going to be the first to say I had the pleasure of working with those so called "scum bags" on The Pride North Dakota in Saudi Arabia and they had more morals and decency than any of those dumb Fuks that opened their mouth and spilled out all of that tree huggin bullsh!t instead sending out prayers and condolences for every family involved in this tragedy.

I've been following this everyday, all day.
I talked to the super here and they explained what could have happened. Safety practices are in place, but they are only good if you know what is going to happen. These guys were blind sided by this kickback. They were just about finished with the well.

About the retards; Man there are some insensitive people out there athat are just purely stupid. Some of the comments just make me shake my head and wonder whay the F they are on this earth. You think CNN site is bad, go read Yahoos comments about the fire.

BTW, I just love how the media said the rig "Exploded". They are just as stupid as the stupid people commenting.

That kind of shit makes my blood boil. Like the guy said on that post oil has always been the back bone of our economy and it always will. And it takes all of those men and women too out there to make it happen. Thousands of jobs are at stake when they talk about not drilling in the gulf. we need to line all of those damn tree huggers up and put them on a boat and let them visit some of the places I have been and they will come back here thanking god that we have the luxury of drilling for oil and making money doing it. Guys over seas make pocket change for busting their ass for a whole month out there. Those a$$ holes that
b!tch about not drilling and finding renewable resources need to live in a grass hut for a while in africa then they might change their minds.

first time i was on a rig i was on the ocean endevor for diamond offshore we was only suppose to be on there for a day r two but we spent 8 days on it cuz for 4 days we was shut down cuz of a gas pocket and the levels were high on the rig floor talk bout scary shit... i pray for all famileies that have relatives on a rig ...

those missing people are dead by now. fire would of killed them. they all knew the risk when they signed on. shit happens. insurance and lawyers will handle it from here. ain't the first one to burn, won't be the last. it sucks, but that's the way it is. God has everybody's number, and u can't run from or change the date he has set for u.

Hey now Turbo, I'm sure hes just speeking the truth. A grim truth but the truth none the less. It is a terrible thing that happened but like Joel said, It isnt the first or the last... Thats all he was sayin. Iv never had the pleasure of meetin him but im sure a lot of people on here can stand for his character..

While DA may sound a bit harsh, it's a sad truth. It's already been stated by the rig company through interviews with the survivors that those 11 probably didn't make it off.

If they were still on the rig there would be no place to hide to escape the heat, the boats spraying water had paint peeling due to the heat and if the 11 were in the water (not in a lifeboat), they probably wouldn't have survived this long. As a former firefighter, I've been to plenty of house fires and know the heat involved, this thing was like a house fire multiplied by 2000. DA's been out there working for a long time and knows how dangerous it is. It could have been him on there.

Stop to think of the dangers of working offshore are:

1. The drive to the dock/heliport (car crash)
2. The flight out (helos go down from time to time)
3. Being on the rig (blowouts & other accidents)
4. The flight back in
5. The drive home

I read some of the idiotic comments at CNN and other places. All these retards are worried about is the environment and gas prices. Those 11 guys paid the ultimate price with their lives, that's the only price that needs mentioning. They don't have a fucking clue when they're standing there at the pump of all that goes into oil & gas production. These 11 gave their life so these idiots can pump their fuel and whine.

It's a sad deal for the families.

Hey guys i am new to the forum, but it seems that many of you work in the oil and gas industry which is/can be very dangerous...... With that being said my best friend works in this industry as well, and if something happened to him I would want to try to help his family. With the networking of this website, the fuge and many others I would imagine you would have a pretty large group of supporters. I know there are probably organizations out there for this and yes as previously stated there are lawyers and insurance.......... I work in the insurance industry and one thing that families need immediatly is help, now. Not months or years later on a settlement. Would anyone like to put together a fund for these families? I have no idea where to start or how to organize it, but would be happy to assist. Thanks,

I retract my previous statement to DA, i too am an oilfield worker, i have flown offshore for 7 years and now i am employed with Motiva Enterprises here in Texas. I do know what goes into makeing oil and gas from both sides. Its ruff, i am just real upset that 11 people have lost there lives out there in the oilfield and to read some comments from the public just made my blood boil. No hard feelings here at all.

I was hit on my way home from work back in January, and I have not been back and it looks like I will not be able to go back. I hit a tree at 55 mph head on due to a kid on a cell phone drinking! he pitted me. HIS fault!! Gald to see all of ya r ok!! I have been thinking about you guys a lot this week!!

DA is right,those missing people never had a chance and prolly didnt suffer much,i was not on the rig but on the scene the whole time,from explosion to sinking.the seas were slick,no wind,perfect conditions for search and rescue.
made a few half-moon passes down current till the coast guard choppers
arrived on scene then started spraying water.definately witnessed some crazy shit! what freaked me out the most was,when we got back inshore,to hear all the bullshit,coverups,lies,etc..if the well shut in after the rig sank,why did the plane say that the fire was still burning underwater?when it goes out theres gonna realllly be some polution goin on.
the coast guard,HAAAA....those first two choppers that came in werent playin',
they dropped rescue swimmers near the damon bankston(where the survivors were)and medivaced the most critical.there was a small fishing boat there who was a big help running a medical bag and supplies from the max chouest to the bankston before the choppers arived.after that,all the coast guard did,from where i was,was take credit on the news.they refused to coordinate any firefighting efforts,liability issues i guess,they wouldnt even answer the radio half the time.they didnt even get too close.there were many vessels voluntering but not too much guidance.
this fire was not gettin put out with water,no way,but we were keeping the rig cooled off,pretty much till a firefighting expert arrived on scene,the next day,and made everyone "concentrate their efforts on the legs and not the deck.".after about 30 or 40 min.things started gettin hot again,exploding again,everyone has to back away again.it was a circus,i could go on and on but i only type with 1 finger......prayers were sent rite off the bat.

That must have looked really erie watching it roll and sink, kinda like the last goodbye. I was wondering if (and when) it sank if it messed up the well piping as it sank, that would be really messed up having the piping damaged well below the surface.

I figured they would concentrate the water streams on the legs to keep them from melting. A lot of folks probably thought they were trying to put the fire out but there would be no way to put it out with what they had, (they probably weren't trying) and those boats had fire monitors with suction inlets that were probably 12+" in diameter and run off the main engines. Maybe some of that water flooded the thing through the holes in the deck caused from the fire.

guys, don't let the stuff on the news pages get to you. I don't even read it cause it just makes me angry.

Out of respect for the guys I knew on that rig, and that of my former company I won't go into great detail but... the "blast" blew the turbos off the engines and into the water, blew the mub pumps into the water, blew the sack room hatch into the living quarters, and blew all of the walls out of the quarters.

The rig and her crew are first class folks, they had the best equipment and the training and procedures to make everthing work right. What happened was worse than anyone could imagine ever possible. It will change the industry in many ways.

its terrible that 11 people did not make it to the life boats, but its a testament to the skill and training of the crew that the others were able to muster and launch with so many traumatic injuries.

The sad part is about all this shit is the fact that no matter what the cost of paying the crew, cost of the rig, cost of the development, all the insidentals, our congress and speculators will always be the driving force of cost of a gallon of crude.

No government, I don't care if it is Osama or the other moron, (Bush), is in office. We need a way to keep the speculators from driving up costs, something no Pres. or Congress has ever had the balls to do. We need to face the facts and quit blaming the simple solutions here. Why do you think other sites spread the shit, good way for more lobbying to take place and drive up more costs on a wishful butterfly. No need, just scare enough people and we all bend over and take the preverbeal hotdog up the highway.

Jindal is calling for flags to be flown at half mast in memory of the 11 missing workers.

And Congress brings the oil company CEO's into hearings to grill them on why their profits are so high. They take huge risks that most people, including myself, don't fully understand. Up until now those risks have paid off for them. Unfortunately, now they will have to pay untold amounts of money to fix this problem. No one would take on these risks without there being an upside potential. Good thing they have prior year profits/cash to pay for the cleanup instead of filing for bankruptcy and sticking the taxpayer with the bill. Sorry to get a little off subject but I just don't think the general public understands everything that is involved with keeping their cars running.

Does anyone with any inside knowledge know if they will be able to shut off the flow of oil still continuing from this well? They said the oil slick was only 30 miles from shore and getting closer each day. Hopefully we don't have an environmental tragedy on top of the human one.

From what I saw on the news (not that it's accurate) they're trying to shut the BOP at the sea floor and that when the rig sank it bent up the casing and kinked it, that's actually helping to slow the flow.

First of my prayers go out to the family of those that were killed in the accident!

I am posting because I would like your opinion on the matter, I live in Tampa/st pete Florida and the media is going crazy about the oil spill (I haven't heard much about the missing people-only how the oil spill is threatening Floridas beaches and the economy). Some of these news casters are comparing this to the Exon Valdize in Alaska. I think that comparison is far fetched but I would like your thoughts on the spill.

( I am for drilling off of Florida, the economy here needs it, and I'm sure the fishing would be better also)

Even if the oil leaked for 30 days. It would only (used loosely) have leaked 1.26 million gallons (estimated). Exxon Valdez spill was 11 million gallons (estimated) all at once.

Also, I don't care how many safety features you impliment, you are still going to have accidents.

Keep this in mind. Even with all the safety features built into cars, they still crash and kill people. But no one is stopping manufactures from building them.

I'd rather se the US drilling off our own coasts and producing what we have instead of having to rely on foreign oil. Buying it from foreigners leaves us more vunerable and making those countries richer.

About four months ago they blew up about 6 of our wells over here in Nigeria
and we had to get someone in here to kill them. It was a very big mess.
The wells flowed for about two weeks. They were in the swamp and the boats could not
get close to the jackets to shut them in.

Last I heard 5,000 barrels a day leaking and yes they set some slicks on fire yesterday.

I guess I don't understand. Why can't they shut off the valve that's on the sea floor? The news has been saying that ROV's are trying but have been unsuccessful.

You would think after this that they would place some secondary valve buried beneath the seafloor (so if the rig falls straight down it doesn't get damaged) with a remote switch or something buried about 1000 feet out so they could access it. Why not one with a remote control at the surface also?

Just seems strange that there is no way to stop the flow. Would dynamite on the seabed seal it up? How big is the pipe coming out of the ground?
