Well long story short.... My electricity was turned off in my rent house back at school for 21 days. (Not to my knowledge) It was packed full of steaks, ducks, pork chops, boudain, chicken, phesants... Well everything. My landlord bought the refrigerator for me so the thing is brand new. I figured many of yall would know the best way of cleaning refrigerators/freezers and getting that nasty smell out out of it. Im sure some of yall lost refrigerators of freezers during some of the hurricanes. So post up. This fuker is rank. |

Spray it down wit a garden sprayer 1/2 bleach - 1/2 water, then let it sit in da sun wit doors open for a couple days. You may never get da smell completely out, but dis helps alot. |

X2 --- bleach and sunshine Then pour some pure amonnia in a large cookie sheat so you have lots of surface area --- run it for 12 hours with the ammonia in there --- it absorbs odors like nothing else does... Charcoal absorbs odors too --- put a half bag in the bottom meat tray when you put food back in.... |

Listen up carefully... Do this in an open area where you will not breathe any of the fumes. I mean it. This shit will jack you up. Get a spray bottle of ammonia. Douse the inside of the fridge with the door open and tilted back. Do not lay the fridge flat as you may jack up the compressor. Let the ammonia sit. Then spray clorox on it. Yes... you are making WWI weapons grade chlorine gas. Trench warfare shit. But it will clean the fridge good as new. Let it sit overnight and then hose it down for 15 minutes. |

Well i pulled all of the ducts, vents and all of that crap. Douched it real good with clorox, scrubbed all of the trays and grates, hosed it down then sprayed more clorox inside and shut the doors. Tomorrow ill open it up wash it down and try the ammonia in the pan trick. Either that or coffee grounds. I read that works real good. We shall see. Preciate it! |

you need to get it in the sunlight and open... closing it is just recirculating it and it is not being purged |

I would spray straight Clorox with a Paint Sprayer. Let that sit for a while, and rinse out.. And keep repeating.. One other thing that works good, is the Bathroom Cleaner made by Clorox. Hope everything works out for ya.. UNCLE J |

Just start throwing different chemicals on it. Fertilizer, gasoline, bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner...let it sit and fester. Sooner or later you're bound to get a reaction good 'nuff to eat that smell off for good! Gettin' blitzed before hand makes it more fun... ![]() |

OK. Here goes....All of the other suggestions are good for masking the smell, but eventually the smell will return. You need something that will adsorb the smell. Call NORIT Americas Activated Carbon Inc. in Marshall, TX and get some activated carbon. Put it in the fridge and it will adsorb all of the smell. I used to be a chemist with the company and that is what one of the applications that activated carbon is used for. Remember the odor eaters commercial? Activated carbon at work. A small qty will not cost you much. |
