Do any of you know a good quail hunting outfitter in South Texas? I want to set up a wild quail hunt for me and several of my friends in south Texas. I've been looking at internet sites and reading web pages of various outfitters but I figured ya'll might know of a good outfitter out there. I am a little skeptical of some of these ranches that keep turning up on my google searches, and I don't want to fly 1,200 miles out there for a crappy hunt. Thanks in advance for your input.

By the way I am looking to set the trip up for next February, after duck season is over.

Thanks,
horsetree

Not sure of the name... But Winnie has an outfitter that does
a "caged release" type Quail hunt.... Right off I-10 by their lil airport....

Also there is another outfitter a few miles down SH-124 that does Green Heads
with private ponds where seasons and bag limits are not applicable...

Do a double tap....

The quail / pheasant / chukkar hunt in Winnie would be Flying Feathers. Pretty good time, if you can handle shootin at pen raised birds.

Well it aint that far south but if you want to have a damn good time and be treated excellent check out tonkaway.com for tonkaway ranch in college station. They are pen raised so I ain't sure if that's your thing but each person has the opportunity at around 50 birds...

Thanks for all of your suggestions. My father came out there quail hunting about 10 years ago , I think he was somewhere around corpus christi, they hunted three ranches ranging from 10,000 to 25,000 acres each and it was an all wild bird hunt. I don't mind hunting "liberated" birds but I can do that here in Alabama or South Georgia. I just once in my life want to hunt wild birds that you don't have to shock with a cattle prod to get them to fly.

On a separate note....are any of you going to the LA mud run? I'm coming down and can't wait to put some faces with names. Should be a good time.

I hunted on the King ranch for a few seasons. Lots of big ranches like your talking about. Go further south west from where your talking about. Depending on the year there are lots of birds.

None of that canned hunt bullshit. All wild.
