 pit bull attack
Last night, my wife and I took our dogs for a walk. She has a little toy shnauzer and I took my yellow lab. Out of nowhere at pit mix attacked our little dog. Grabbed it in its mouth and shook it. My wife yanked the leash and pulled our dog up into her arms. The pit then lunged at my wife, and my wussy yellow lab who wouldn't hurt a fly grabbed on the pits neck and pinned it to the ground. Wife ran home and I ran and got my "get right". As I beaded down on the dog the owner comes running down the street screaming don't shoot my dog. At this point all the neighbors are outside watching as Im screaming at the owner. Get home and my yellow wont leave my pregnant wife's stomach. Darndest thing I ever saw. Glad to know my dog will open the "whoop a$$" when needed.

Amazing what seemingly docile creatures can do when faced with a true threat to themselves or their masters/family. Glad everyone is okay.

 Re: pit bull attack
Very interesting story. Glad everyone is OK. It's funny how Pits are supposed to be so bad and then this one gets it arse handed to him by a Lab. When needed a Lab will do what it needs to. Even kill.
BTW, I agree with Brooks, you are slow on the trigger. I think all Pits should have a collar with a grenade on it. If it gets out the yard, boom. BTW, this is just my opinion.
One other thing, I'd be looking to file charges.

 Re: pit bull attack
I don't care for the mutts either. I give um one chance to pass through the yard( has only happened once at a house that I used to live at) SOB walked up to my son when he was like 2. I took him inside grabbed tha auto loader 270 and chased him out the yard with rounds. Then proceeded to go to the the brotha's house that owned him and let him know that that was the only warning he was gonna get. He'd just be missin next time. Never saw the dog again. MAby one of those rounds came a bit too close.

Not tryin to take the dogs side here but he was just doing what he knows to do, Probably a dominant dog and felt the need to show its dominance to the other dogs, Dogs are wild animals that have been domesticated yet when they act wild people want to kill them or ban a breed of dog
Im glad nothing bad happened man --- Glad the Lab took control of the situation and didnt allow the pit to hurt your wife of dog

 Re: pit bull attack
I had a pit once. When I lived in Mississippi. Keep all the Afro Americans out of my yard.Shot it in the head one day for biting me while I was vacuuming my truck out.I don't know if it did not like the vacuum noise or me. It was the last one I would own and the last person it was going to bite.
Glad it turned out well for you and your wife.

 Re: pit bull attack
I really dislike Pits, more so its ALWAYS the owner that's not being responsible with them. They are very territorial, loyal dogs that will defend their owner they usually associate themselves with one person. I've had some close calls with them. Hope I never go through what you went through Rob glad your BOTH okay. Give that lab a steak tonight

 Re: pit bull attack
I would have shot him in the head while the whole neighborhood watched. It's one thing to let a lab run loose if you live out in the sticks. Letting a pit run around in a neighborhood is just stupid.

Apparently the pit got loose. The only reason it lived is the woman was very close to the dog when it was in the sights. I did let her know if he got loose again it would be dispatched.

 Re: pit bull attack
Well my sister who would not hurt a flea raised one and slept with it,treated it like a kid you know what I'm saying. The dog was as nice as could be never had an issue with aggression and one day it snapped took a chunk out of my sisters forearm and then attacked my mother before my brother shot it. Now my sister has a hole in her arm the size of a plum.
I just do not trust the breed.
Glad to hear that all is well with your family.

 Re: pit bull attack
Bla, bla, bla...Same ol story....Just heard the same shit about a lab the other day, except it bit the daughter of the owner, and took off a good portion of her face. Does this mean that labs are a bad breed? I have personally known way more people bitten by other breeds of dogs, than by pits. And I have been around pits for a long time. More so than other breeds probably, but none of the dogs I've ever been around have had issues with people. Few had issues with dogs because they were'nt socialized early on, but no problems with people. Probably well over a hundred dogs that never bit anyone, lived a happy life, and died of old age. Every breed has a bad apple every now and then, but not all bad apples are publicized. I'm guessing if the person who started this thread didn't "think" the dog had pit in it this thread would not have been started. Like if it was a lab maybe? The dog would have been kicked off, no guns would have been brought out, and life would have gone on happily ever after.
And by the way, the title says this was a pit, but the first post says it was a mix breed. Which means its a mut, not a pit, but yet the pit gets blamed again.
And I didn't mean to make that personal. I am glad your sister survived the mishap, and can still live her live to the fullest. And to the original poster, I'm glad you, your wife, and your dog made it out okay. I would not wish this to happen to anyone.

 Re: pit bull attack
Dogs are individuals, like people. Seen some nice folks just snap. I will say this, the only dog I have ever been bitten by was a lab that got off his chain. Seen some mean dogs and nice dogs of all types. I have a rottweiler that is a sweetheart, doesn't seem like she would hurt a fly and loves everybody, even strangers, but much like kids, the minute you say they are angels, they will make a liar out of you.

 Re: pit bull attack
idgaf what kind of dog it is. if it attacks someone, or someones dog. it needs to be shot. if i were you i woulda walked straight up to it and shot it with the owner right there. i dont like pits at all. if an unlucky one winds up in my yard it wont be leaving.
yeah we killed off a pack of coyotes by my house by stuffing hot dog weenies with antifreez. looked in the woods 2 or 3 days later and there were buzzards circling. they never came back lol

 Re: pit bull attack
I dont normally get on the subject of pits cause too many people stereotype em. Ive owned pits, rotwielers, dobermans and all that. The meanest dog Ive ever owned was a dalmation. I grew up with pits and never had problems. The dalmation would kill anything she could get ahold of. My grandfather had deer hounds all his life. My grandmother was attacked by a black and tan deer hound and put in the hospital. My pits never did anything like that. Many friends of mine have Catahoulas as hog dogs and that is the closest you can come to a pit. They have no problems with those either. Not just takin up for the dog, but like stated before, its probably alot to do with the way the dog was raised. All in all, Im glad you or your wife wasnt hurt. Given the situation wit da pregnant wife and all, I woulda probably shot it.

 Re: pit bull attack
1st & foremost, Robert, I'm glad yall are ok (especially with how hard it was to get prego in the 1st place).
Now on to the bs... Yes, I have been bit by a dog, yes it was a lab (actually a golden retriever), and yes it was MY fault (tried to seperate our dogs from fightin when I was about 6). Now, on the other hand, the ONLY time I've ever had a dog come into my yard & try to attack me, it was a pit that had just moved into the neighborhood a few months prior. A few days later it tried to get the neighbor on the other side's wife. Day after that it tried to get my wife & her toy fox terrier. That was the day it died from lead poisoning. Plenty other dogs in the neighborhood that roam and will come & just hang out, but this one was bad news. Funny part was the other pit they had was sweet & gentle (which is why it survived).
Bottom line is yes any dog could turn bad, but you sure here about more bad pits than any other. For the record, I too feel that the majority of the problem is the owner, but still have no use for that breed.
Oh yeah, almost forgot. Labs are actually one of the toughest dogs, they just don't get associated as "guard dogs" as much as they do "pet" or "partner". I'd put Ol Rhett up against just bout anybody or anything. lol Hell, sometimes he's scared the crap outta me when I come in late.

 Re: pit bull attack
The worst two dogs to own are Dalmations and Chiwawas. Both are really territorial and tempermental.
My lab is the nicest thing and the only time she has ever been defensive was when my wife was pregnant and when my daughter was a baby.

 Re: pit bull attack
Any dog will bite someone but its the end results of a pit attack that are bad. I've seen folks bitten by all kinds of dogs but the worst that I have seen with my own eyes were from a pit that was raised by the person it attacked. Notice I said attack not bitten.
Now I will have to go and search the www. to look for some pics of people who were mauled by labs to see what I can find.

 Re: pit bull attack
You probably won't find it. They don't make the news unless its a pit. The little girl I was talking about earlier in this thread was viciously attacked by a lab. Tore off most of her face. Worst attack I have heard about, other than another little girl that was attacked by an akita. Same thing happened with her. Both of these lil girls are having to go through reconstructive surgery's to try to repair the damage. I knew both of these girls. You won't find any info on either of the attacks I mentioned either. I searched. Both of the attacks were older dogs that had been involved with families for a long time. All you hear about on the news or www is pits, which is why everyone hates them...
Only person I know personally who has been attacked by a pit was recently out at caddo. And those dogs have an ownership problem. The ninja that owns them treats them like shit and lets them roam the whole town off a leash. Its no wonder they are the way they are. But I have a feeling no matter what kinda dog that feller owned, it would be a mean one.

The meanest dog Ive been around lately is Uncle Js little piece of sh!t. That lil bastard might make the news one day. If he can raise a dog like that to be mean, he deffinately dont need a pit.

 Re: pit bull attack
I thought I read somewhere that the lab is ranked number 1 for biting people. But again how many people own lab a lot which is the reason why they have that ranking. I use to have a rott and everytime we would walk by this house if there dog was out which was a lap it would run out to the street growling and barking. Everytime my rott would step in bwtween us. The last time it happened I told the owner next time I am gonna let my dog go. The dog never ran out to the street again because they tired up the dog when he let out the dog to go the bathroom. The dog was probably nice but thought it was the pack leader with the family that it lived with so it was doing what it thought it was suppose to defend it's territory. I don't blame the dog, I blame the owner for not showing the dog who the pack leader was in that family. Every dog will act this way if it thinks it's the pack leader.
I have brother in law had pit that bit his daughter. The dog and him were laying on the bed and his daughter went running up to the bed to jump on it, when the dog turned and bit her on the face. I told my wife that the pit would bite one his kids one day because he never showed the dog he was the pack leader, the dog did what ever it wanted to. So the dog thought he was the pack leader and when his daughter went to jump on the bed the pit didn't want the girl up on the bed so the pit bit her. Was it the pits fault yes and no it was both of their faults for not showing your dog who the pack leader is. Beating your dog does not show your dog your pack leader it only makes things worse.
Some dogs have traits in them that just make them more prone to doing certain things.

I'll kill any breed of dog before I watch it hurt a member of my family, I'm not a pit hater, but I don't trust em at all. Would never own one or allow my wife to get one. U should have pulled it- bottom line
