I just had my sahara auto bilge pump go out after two years. To be honest I don't think it every got used except for a quick check. I had one in my previous boat for about 5 years with no problems. This one just doesn't make good contact when the float goes up. My question is has anyone used the new Rule pumps with the dielectric automatic switch? Are you pleased with it? I was wondering how well they work or if I should just buy another sahara that might crap out in another couple years. I need the auto cause I aint waking up at 2 in the morning to drain a boat when at the camp.

Get a big manual pump and rig it with the seperate float swith. That way if the switch gets bad you can just replace that part. I have had a few manual pumps over the years and can't ever remember one going bad.

I'm personally a fan of Johnson Pump bilge pumps. I have two in my bay boat and just put one on my GD. Their 1000 gph pump uses 3/4" hose. With Rule and every other company I've seen the 1000 gph pumps use 1 1/8" hose. All three of the one's I own are the 1000 gph. In six years with the bay boat I've only had to replace one. They are a cartridge pump also so if the motor goes bad you can pop it out and just wire a new one into the existing mount. One of the two on my bay boat has a built in float switch. I've never had a problem with the float switch in six years.

Build a boat shed to park your boat under.
