shoot 3 1/2 shells? i listen to the gun talk from time to time and see alot of yall have extreema and sbe, and other 3 1/2 guns. for those that have them do you use 3 1/2 shells? my brother has both sbe and extreema. we were patterning turkey chokes in them one day. had 4 or 5 chokes and 3 or 4 shells. well with 2 guns and all the combos it made for alot of shooting. i thought i needed a 3 1/2 until several shots into it. i dont think ill ever buy one now. plus come to find out 3 inchers work better in both guns. now i know turkey loads are heavy (one shot and go home) and most 3 1/2 steel wont be near as bad, but still all day has to be a work out. |

I have a SBE II and the only time I use 3 1/2 is for turkey. Dont have many birds that dont fall with the 3 inch. If you want to punish yourself shoot the 3 1/2 but Im sticking to the 3 inch |

I shoot 3" all the time but I like to have the bigger option when I feel the need for it. Mostly for late season big water hunts where the shots are long and I like the bigger payload for those situations. |

I like using 3 1/2 for cripples when they get way out their and snow geese also nice for the big late season honkers. Its nice to have a little extra power I dont use it alot but nice to have the option to. |

I like the 3 1/2's for cripples too. I had a bunch in the closet from when I hung up the ol 835 a few years ago, so I finished em out last year. Bought 2 3/4's and 3's this year. Its really all you need for ducks. If you need more, get you a better call ![]() ![]() |

Anyone who says they have never had a cripple or wing tipped one that glided a ways out is full of Sh@#. A 3' is all ya ever need for ducks but it sure is nice to be able to clean the head off a cripple at 70 yards. Make the dogs job easier too. We have alot of current up here and a dog will go forever on a cripple nice to not wear out the dog |

3 1/2 - has it's place with bigger shot - to up the pellet count..... Great in a goose spread but not in a duck blind..... |

[quote="fowl habbit] I have to agree and I alos agree they put a hurting on the old shoulder. Especially when ya lay in a Nebraska snow goose field shooting close to a 100 rounds of 3 1/2 a day lol ![]() Was that an invitation? ![]() |

Remington Hypersonic 3" #2's are bad medicine on ducks and geese. Tried 'em out for these early season geese and teal and I've killed geese leaving at 50 yards plus with a 3'' Browning Gold. I won't ever punish myself with 3.5's again. Turkey hunting is another story, I shoot 3.5 Hevi-shot duplex with the mix of 4,5,7 through a Benelli Nova 28" with a Jellyhead choke. |

what is the point of them hypersonic shells i think that is just a waste the fastest i have ever shot was 1550 i think and that drops them hard i shot a case or two of winchester xpert hi-velocity stell shot 12 ga 3in 1550fps 1 1/8oz. 2 shot and it handles everything that flies even geese feel the hurt on them shells |

Bought 2 boxes of Remington 3 1/2" no. 3's year before last, I thought I would never finish shooting those damn things. 20 bucks a box ain't worth it. Sure, it killed, hell half the birds were so shot up you'd end up at the dentist, and my shoulder and middle finger caught hell, thought that trigger guard was gonna be the end of me. I did learn one thing - if you need bigger shells to compensate because you can't get birds close to you, then it's not the shells, it's you. |

I used to shoot 3-1/2 all the time but now I keep a box with me in case the geese are flying good. |

I prefer 2 3/4" Hevi-shot. If the birds are over the decoys, where they are supposed to be, it is all you need. I reload them, so I save a few cents a round. Fortunately, you don't need many of them. For divers and geese, or hunting someone else's setup, I go straight to 3 1/2" black cloud. They beat you some, but they do get the job done, and they are relatively inexpensive. |

I shoot 3.5" with a Briley goose choke in a old Benelli Nova all season. The 3.5" shells are not for pussies.I bought a over and under this year for doves and plan on shooting it for a change. With 3" shells it kicks harder then my Nova with 3.5". |

I know my pops gun shoots best with 2 3/4 1 5/8 #6 (sbe) and my old stoeger shoots best with with them too. And as far a chokes the stoeger x-full that comes with the gun patterns the best with all the choke/shell combos me and pops have tried. But thats for turkeys. For the duck birds I shoot 3" #6 1 3/8. And pattern damn good with a kicks modified. Out of a sbe II. |
