Found some Vision X LED's But they are more of a bar type. Found some more made by Rigid Industries and they dont look too bad. Just wanted to know if anyone knew of any more different brands...

I'm in the process of getting the lights that came on my Gator Trax replaced with some HID's. I've already ordered the parts and I will be able to let you know if my idea works by the end of this week. What I noticed is that if you look at Vision X VX-4410 halogen lights, or any of their 4" models, you'll notice that they all say "upgradeable to HID" which means they have enough space inside to house an HID ballast and igniter.

So what I did is that I bought two of these 4" lights for $28 each and an HID kit off of ebay for $40 shipped. If you search ebay for an "h3 HID 5000k ultra slim" kit these new Xentec kits with redesigned ballasts will show up. They are much smaller than the previous slim kits that I've bought because the ballast and igniter are all together in a smaller package than the HID upgrade Vision X sells, so they should fit perfectly inside. In any case, if this works, I will have two HID lights on my boat that will be brighter than any LED for under $100 total. These lights if purchased with the HID ballasts in them already will run you $200 each so if what I'm doing works, I'll save myself $300 and I'll have 6400 lumens of pure white light lighting my way at night. I'll let you know if it works and if it does, I'm going to start a thread explaining to everyone here how I did it.

Sounds like a good idea! Tell me if they work and I might try it.

I looked at the LEDs also for swamp lights. They are too expensive for an experiment so I'm going with some hid 130 watts. Let us know how the LEDs work out

There's another thread on here where someone posted a link for two ready made HID lights for $110. You can't beat that.

I built my lights today and posted a step by step on how I did it. They work great and are extremely bright!
