Post New pump 12 ga.
Im kind of in the market for a new shotgun. Ive been shootin the same old 12 ga most of my life. Its an old Winchester that only shoots 2 3/4" shells. Im bout to retire it. Last year I bought a Mossberg 835 ulti mag and didnt really care for it so I got rid of it. Im lookin at the Benelli Nova. What are yall thoughts on this gun?

Not to sound stupid or anything, but what are the differences between the Nova and Super Nova?

Tenpoint if you are stuck on a pump gun get yourself a 870 wingmaster not the cheap express.

benelli pumps, whether the nova or super nova, both suck. the only benelli i would even consider hunting with and owning is the original SBE.

I've got a nova that I bought when they first came out. The recoil with any load is bad. I loaned to a friend this teal season and soon got it back. I've only run a few boxes through it myself,it was bought as a back up gun and I hope I never need it.

As far as the original SBE I've got one of those also and its been retired because it will not stay together.

If you want a mule get an old 870 mag or a BPS.

I gots one of the older Nova'a from when thay first came out. I have shot close to a galzillion shots thru it. It probly has mo blood on it than all the smart-bombs shot durin' the shock-n-all mission !!!

The bad : It's the uglest gun ever to have been manufactored.
It kicks wurse than a Bay-Mule.

The good : It's probly the tuffest gun on planet Earth .... period.
It's priced fo the workin' man.
Ifin you don't loose it ..... it will always be there fo you !!!

and that Sirs .... is a Matr-Fact !!!! :D

I have a nova about 10 years ago and used it until last year when I bought my auto -- the only cleaning I did on it was hose it off and spray oil on it. I left it in the case one time on accident and it got a little rust on the barrel . I sent it off to have it teflon coated and been using is since, I used to shoot 3-1/2" BB out of it at goose - It does have a good kick but its a reliable gun.

I have shot a Nova since they come out and 3 other people that hunt with me shoot the same gun. They are the best damn mud and saltwater gun made.95% of the shells I shoot are 3.5" and never had one single problem from it or the other two that hunt with me.So these people saying they are junk. Are full of shiat.I bought all three of the guns and paid a little over $400 for the camo.DO NOT BUY THE BLACK NOVA.IT WILL RUST.

I got a Nova but I second the motion that if you buy a good autoloader (I'm a Browning guy but that's just me.) you won't miss a pump. I have a Nova that I turkey hunt with and if you want a gun that goes boom when you squeeze the trigger then it's the gun for you. Mine is a 28 inch barrel and I promise you it patterns just as good or better than any other. Never had it jam, EVER. I'm not rough on guns and clean mine frequently so I don't know how well they hold up to 10+ years of mud because when I buy a gun I want it to last forever. They're probably the simplest guns to take apart and put back together though and so far after 4 years of having one in the dove field, duck boat, and crawling in the turkey woods its still a great gun.

i used a nova for one season 2 years ago. i liked it. durable gun, never rusted, never jammed, and always fired. I use an 870 express now. durable, rusty, never jams, and fires 98% of the time. I never oil the gun. i shoot it completely dry. The oil i was using was freezing inside the gun when it would get super cold out, and the firing pin wouldn't work. I only spray the gun down with wd40 after saltwater, and then just wipe it down.

This is just like comparing mudmotors: "I bought this one, so it's got to be the best"

I had a Nova that someone gave me because he did not like it, I gave it back after 1 hunt. I just did not like the way the stock was designed. It fealt like a cheap imitation army gun. The fore end was very "loose" and I just did not care for the gun at all.

I have an 870 Wingmaster that I've had since my eleventh birthday in 1983 that has been a very good gun. I have never abused it though because it has a lot of sentimental value. I do not know how it would have held up if abused.

Out of all the pumps I've shot, I prefer the Browning BPS. I shoot the 10 ga. and it's been a very good gun. I hunted exclusively in salt water marshes for several years and never had any issues with it.

Tenpoint, did you look at the Remington 887? It looks kinda funky, some say it's ugly. But it shoots great. It's very durable, easy to disasemble to clean. If you are worried about getting a gun dirty or wet, you may want to look into it.
If you'd like, I could meet you at the trap range and you can shoot it. I went a few weeks ago and shot over 100 rounds in 2ish hours. Not 1 jam or missfire. Also they are $30 cheaper this year at academy.

Thanks for all the info fellas. I dont want an auto because of the things I do wit a shotgun. It will be used for a paddle. It will be left in the bottom of the boat. It will be a walking stick in the marsh and probably a pushpole a time or two. The 12 ga Ive been using for 20 yrs now has done all of the above with no problems at all, but it has some sentimental value and its time to just hang it up. I like the durability factor of the Nova. Im gonna have to go check em out next week.

Another vote for 870 Wingmaster. Best pump gun ever made. Just don't buy anything made by Mossberg.

Brooks put a lil piece of tissue paper behind that thangy on the side and it will hold it in place so you can reassemble your firearm,it will not hurt the performance.

The nova sucks. they kick like hell and feel like crap in you hands. I have one and it is a total wast of my money. I have the the 870 and that gun rust like a bitch when ever it gets any mosture in the air. spend a little bit more and get a good auto loader like the browning siver hunter or the Benelli Super black eagle. they are well worth the cash you gona throw down
