Is 308 a good caliber for deer and hogs? Don't think I'll be shooting farther than 200yds

Yes it is. Although I prefer the 7mm-08 but either is deadly on both.

YUP. Pretty accurate caliber too. I took mine when I sighted my 6mm in. Shot a .094" group at 25 yds just killing time, then a .4" group at 100yds before putting it up.

25yd 5 shot group

100yd 3 shot group

the hole in the white circle isnt part of the group. Thats where I moved the point of aim before putting it up.

I reload, and really like the choice of bullets as well as match grade hunting bullets available for it

Recoil is the same as 270. We shot 308 out to 1000yds long as the wind aint to bad. Works for hunting out to 500yds long as u know your gun and have good handloads.

I think the factory loads Super Premium or something along those lines will suit anyone just fine. I have a Springfield M1A Scout Squad rifle in 308 and it shoots anything I put through it and shoots them well. Don't use it for hunting, just plinkin!

Had a friend that was a sniper in the mil. He used to shoot a M14 with an ART 2 or 3 scope. Accurate to 1000 meters when he was in his prime.

I like m1a and they are a great rifle have a few of them. Factory ammo will suit anyone that is just hunting or plinkin with the 308. I just was saying u can get alot out of a 308 if u spend the time to find a good handload. Have u shot a ar10 or r25? Just got one that iam getin tuned in. I am shoting out to 500yd hunting. I limit my self even if iam shoting my 50bmg. the shows own tv aint showing the miss or wounded animals ether.

I'll do you a favor - 308 Thumper - subsonic....

Does not come out the other side and imparts full knockdown.....
Ideal 50 to 200 yard ammo on deer and hogs....

One of the nice parts about 308 is a broad variety of loads to choose from...
