What is everyones favorite shotgun. I'm looking for a new one because my 870 super mag isn't holding up to my everyday duck hunting abuse |

you may want to consider hunting with a rock, the 870 is prolly the toughest. |

+1 on the 870 being the toughest mofo out there. I have one that I have used for years. I've used that damn thing for everything, like an emergency boat paddle, ice breaker, walking pole when I fall down in the mud.. no matter what I throw at this pig, it just keeps on shooting. Most reliable gun ever built IMO. |

Well maybe I got a bad 870 because it's falling apart and it's only 2 years old and some times after I shoot I have to slam it on something to eject the shell But I really have my eye on a super nova or super black eagle II |

The newer 870s don't like to be slammed like you could with the old ones. Try new shells. Still, 870 is still the toughest. |

if you cant get an 870 to hold up.... dont bother goin to anything else... 870s are one of the toughest guns out there. Ive hunted with an 870 for years, in some of the nastiest conditions they rarely fail |

try a different shell I used to have the jamming problem with a mossberg 500 when i shot most winchester shells, switched and havent had a problem with that gun... I hunt with a few guns, Remington 870, mossberg 500 and 935... in shitty weather i go with the pumps. |

Well I have to slam the 870 no matter what shells I shoot and I'm not gonna spend money on something I already have problems with so I'm looking to try something new. I have always owned a pump so I'm looking to maybe get an auto this time considering that I do still have my 870 |

i shot a 870 forever and finally tried a auto after cussing em for several years, just the feel of the extrema 2 makes the 870 feel like a piece of junk. i havent had one issue with the gun either, i wont ever go back to a pump. |

You might check out the Remington 887, it's a more durable 870... if thats possible. Maybe you should look at an all weather over/under. I think that if the 870 didnt satify you as far as reliabilty and ruggedness you might want to switch to a H&R Topper! |

If I was lookin for a gun for my 12 year old godchild then maybe I would consider a Topper but I'm not so it is not an option |

I've got a Nova and it's tough. If you go that route buy the camo one because my barrel was bad to get rust on it (my gun is black) until I painted that sucka with some high heat grill paint. I also have had the pleasure of putting several hundred rounds through the new 887 and it's tough. Should take care of your ejection issues as it has to lugs to grab the shell as opposed to the one for the 870. I love my Browning Gold and have only had a few minor issues with it after several thousand rounds. I like Brownings as opposed to the Berettas and Benellis but that is just personal fit issues... |

Post subject: | Re: Shotgun |
the 887 is having alot of problems in the chamber also, you have to send it in and have a new bolt put in..... buddy has one sent it in the guts of the gun came back completely different. depending the type of weather you hunt in if its real cold a semi auto will freeze, where im from i hunt with my semi up until the last week of the season where it can be way below freezing.... then i go to one of the pumps. |

The stoeger is a decent cheap auto... I used one for a few seasons. I shot it very well, easy to swing. Only thing I ever had problems with was low brass at the range. Didn't have any issues with high brass. And really, long as I kept it clean, I didn't have too many issues with the light stuff either. Most complaints I've seen have been similar. I sold it to a buddy and he shoots it well, and hasn't had any trouble with it since he's had it. I did read after owning it, that a proper break in period will help with the issues I described above. Can't remember exactly what it was, but if you do a web search I'm sure you'll find some info. |

If he's tearing up an 870 a stoeger 2000 will last him a week! |

Mine went swimming in the mud on more than one occasion and still managed to finish out the hunt. Piece of a t-shirt and an old lanyard make a good bore-snake. ![]() These guys are right though. If you can't keep an 870 in working condition, a sling shot may be your best bet. |

For the price of the Stoger it is looking like it will be my next gun And if it doesn't hold up then I guess it is an operator problem lol If it does hold up for me then in a few years I will up grade to a higher end auto |

My 870 did the same thing, having to slam it down to eject the shell. A real good cleaning took care of it. The Express is half junk, the Special Purpose and Wingmaster are wayyyy smoother. That being said, I miss my SBE, and love my SX3 |

The new 870's are junk. Had one for a few years and hated it so much that I sold it for $20. Shot a nova for a few years and it held up fine. Now I'm shooting a SX2 and it's been great to me. |

I shoot a sbe2 Buddy bought a maxis from cabellas today and it's really nice. On the light weight side, recoil isn't bad at all, it gets an "A" n my book for a gas gun for sure |
