 Airline approved gun case
I'm flyin out of DFW into Manhattan Regional in Kansas on the 16th or 17th of December with American Airlines.
I'm not a big fan of falling to my death so I've never been on an airplane, much les had to check a gun. I have a hard case with the 3 number combo but I'm not sure if it will work.
Can someone who has traveled via Airline give me a heads up on what will be acceptable? Like I said I have Zero experience with this stuff. Or, if someone in my area has one I could rent or borrow it would help me out a bunch.
thanks, Josh

 Re: Airline approved gun case
It has to be a keyed lock. You can borrow one of mine. Just swing by the house and pick it up.

 Re: Airline approved gun case
I went to Canada in October and it was not near as bad flying with a gun as I expected. Get a key lockable case. I personally use Pelican cases, they are expensive, but you can look on their website and they have info about airline approved cases.

 Re: Airline approved gun case
Can't pack it with your gun, must be full boxes, no more than 25 rounds, cant be in carry on luggage. Think im missing something else but not sure.

 Re: Airline approved gun case
Last time I flew with one was a year or two ago, don't know what has changed since then but... I bought one of the hard cases from academy with the 3 number combo locks on each end. Carried two guns in the case and ammo with my clothes. Didn't have any issues coming or going. DFW to ATL and back.

 Re: Airline approved gun case
You might want to look into SKB cases as well. They're not as expensive as Pelican and the quality is up there. They'll also insure your gun if it gets damaged in their case while transporting.

 Re: Airline approved gun case
I have a aluminum case that's airline approved, but if I had to get another I'd get a SKB. I just went to Kodiak Island and didn't have any issues with transporting my firearms. You will have to lock it and keep the key with you. Security never even asked me to open my case for inspection. You will have to declare your firearm(s) to be unloaded. I put 2 boxes of shotgun shells and two boxes of rifle shells in my case. Some airlines might have different requirements. Alaska Air was very easy to deal with.
