Post Mysterious Exploding Gun Case
this morning I went out outside the office, for no reason, and saw the windows on my dads Silverado were black. Opened the door and smoke starts billowing out of the cab. Ran inside and hollered for my dad and grabbed the extinguisher. When we got back outside there were flames and smoke. Started pulling out the crap in the back seat when I saw my brand new case wth my Bushmaster M4 was melted and on fire. Then pulled out my dads 30-06 and it was melted to shit. All his hunting clothes were melted together from plastic from the case and there was plastic blown all over the headliner and interor. Finally got the fire out and everything pulled out of the truck. We though a cigarette had lit up but after seeng the plastic, batteries and ammo blown out in the truck we new something in my case had ewploded. Thought it was the laser, but it was fine. The flashlight had the back blown off and the batteries were stuck to the dash. Pretty sure that's what did it.

anyway, to the point, I'm just grateful I just so happened to go outside and take a look around. And I'm extremely glad I decided to take it to work today instead of leaving it unattended at my home...not to mention the two full mags of ammo with each gun. There were some exploded 556 casings in the seats and bullets in the cab. A S&W 9mm in the console and my Marlin 30-30 that were unharmed thankfully.

now I get to deal with insurance companies and the replacement of the firearms.

that's how we roll.. Never know when the shits gonna hit the fan

as for the light being left on, it's a possibility. The back cap is pretty sensitive and only takes slight pressure to turn on. We found one battery stuck to his dash

Found this:

In the types of batteries most commonly used in flashlights—zinc/carbon batteries and alkaline batteries—hydrogen gas (H2) is produced naturally as a product of the corrosion of the zinc electrode in the aqueous electrolyte. Differences in batteries, including cell design and charge rate, affect the rate and volume of H2 generation. Excess hydrogen gas is more likely to be released if batteries are used incorrectly; that is, if different types or brands of batteries are mixed, damaged batteries are used, old batteries are mixed with new batteries, or batteries are inserted incorrectly so that polarity is reversed. Excess hydrogen gas may also be produced by rechargeable batteries during recharging. If H2 accumulates within batteries or battery compartments without sufficient release, the buildup of pressure can cause the battery or compartment casing to rupture. Also H2 and oxygen (O2) mixtures are highly explosive, and if ignited by a spark or excessive heat can produce powerful explosions.

I would have a lawyer contact the flashlight manufacturer.

Had one of those mini mag lights that felt it getting warm on my hip snatched it off.Aluminum houseing got REAL hot I took s pair of channel locks and forced the end cap open. The batteries had fused to the flashlight body/housing. The only things I can think of is batteries reacted to disimilar metals and shorted to the housing or the batteries them selfsame shorted causing a small fire fusing them selfs to the housing.
