That's insane. They don't even use cavitation plates to hold them down, beats the hell out of me.

Re: Thai Longtails amaze me more and more
I think they use some kind of reduction. Like a pulley in the back with a belt and then another pulley that connects to the shaft. and a bigger prop ( surface drive style prop)

Re: Thai Longtails amaze me more and more
From extensive reading on these Thai longtails. I learned the shafts are really long a balanced , so the high pitch surfacing prop will pull its way to surfacing, and being the angle is longer, the prop is pushing more horizontal. Most Thai longtails are direct bolt to engine drives= 1:1, the props and the length of the shaft are the difference, I have seen a belt driven reduction drive once on Youtube, but I cannot find it anymore. Gatortail huh, Just think if that longtail had a 35 vanguard on it, put a single cylinder 13 honda on that their gatortail and lets see what it can do. Lol You have to remember the modern longtails we see here in the US were copied from the Vietnamese during the Vietnam war. So we should give them their due, because without these eastern peeps we would not have a Godevil, Gatortail, PD, Mudbuddy, Beavertail, Etc..............................Maybe an American propeller company will try copying their surfacing propellers and put them on modern day surfacedrive mud motors.
