Post Trinity Bay - Man Missing
This story likely will not have a happy ending....

But just in case - keep an eye open when out in this area ! ! !

More Detail....

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a fisherman who was reported missing on Tuesday and whose submerged boat and fishing gear were found in Galveston Bay Wednesday.

Anahuac, 42 year old man, was reported missing about 6 p.m. Tuesday after he did not return as scheduled from a fishing trip offshore near Smith Point, authorities said.

Crews from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, using side-scanning sonar, found the man's 21-foot White Osprey sport fisher about 1 mile north of Smith Point on Wednesday. But when deputies and divers with the Chambers County Sheriff's Office raised the vessel, he was not onboard.

His fishing gear also was spotted in the area.

The Coast Guard, along with the Chambers County Sheriff's Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife, reported searching more than 400 square miles in Trinity Bay, East Bay and Galveston Bay.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the Coast Guard command center at 713-678-9057.

Read that in the chronicle a couple days back. Definitely sad. I wonder how a 21 footer flipped over around smith point. That area isn't that rough.

If you forget the plug or a crack in a boat can easily compromise a hull. I did not hear anything about this prayers sent.

I helped 3 people out back in December that were in a 21' Kenner that sank their boat at the mouth of the river out there. Prop hit bottom and he did not have enough since to trim up, started taking water over the transom and down she went in 4' of water. 37, 12 and 80 year old were in the boat going duck hunting. I found the boat at 8 am with nobody in it. When I left to go back to the ramp to call TPWD I found them standing on bank of the river. Got em to the ramp and got the boy in my truck to turn the heater on. The sank it at 5 am. Did not know the bay and the boat was new. It was bad that day with winds 25-30 mph out of the North. I was at Smith point one time in February trout fishing in a 23' Kenner and a front come in. That shit was tough in that big boat way down at that end of the bay. Hopefully that guy made it to the bank.

Sad end to this story. The body was identified today when it washed onto Galveston.
