 Tranause Cutter Help???
I'm wanting to cut a tranause and while explaining my idea to a buddy he said for me to just get a tranause cutter. Having never seen one of these i was wanting to see if any of yall have pictures or possibly even a design yall would like to share. Or even a design like an old pull boat used for logging back in the day.

 Re: Tranause Cutter Help???
Its been many years but I have seen them. They used to be inboards type mudboats that had a tiller type attachment on the front that would cut and throw marsh and mud out the way, cutting a trainasse or ditch for access to marsh trap lines by trappers.

 Re: Tranause Cutter Help???
The last time I saw pics of them was in the museum in Lafayette I believe. Couldn't find anything but reference in a couple articles on the net. Someone posted something on here or the old MMT showing a larger aluminum hull with front end loader that was badazz. Think it was made in S LA.

There is one parked in the back of the Valero gas station on hwy 90 just before you get to lake Des Allemands. It has been sitting there for a while. I will ask about it next time I pass

 Re: Tranause Cutter Help???
latravcha not sure if your talking about the one Kirk built or not but his was nice. It was a mudboat but he had it setup where it would throw the mud and grass out the side. He said it worked good but never saw him use it.

 Re: Tranause Cutter Help???
The ones I've seen actually work like a ditch maker used in soybean and corn fields to allow drainage across the crop rows, but just on a larger scale.

 Re: Tranause Cutter Help???
I have a friend that has a 454 mudboat with a front end loader installed on the bow. He can dig through anything up to 6' deep. If ou want to pay someone to do it, he charges a per day+ fuel.

 Re: Tranause Cutter Help???
A traneau is the French word for sled. A traneaus is the path made by the sled after it has gone through the terrain. More commonly used in context of snow sleds, but since no snow in Louisiana, Acadians used it to describe the path left behind after a boat or pirogue traverses marshy terrain. I use to ride a mule driven traneau through cane fields for fun.
