 Uncle J Do you build any hulls using .100? I have only hit 1 fence post in 18 years, just don't have to run through stump infested terrain down here. We do run aground alot, so I was just think about .100 to reduce weight.

Re: Uncle J i have a .100 boat. if you would see the amount of bracing throught out this boat to make it as strong as it is (not very) you would change your mind. you can grab the bow from the side and feel the boat twist.

Re: Uncle J i disagree i had a boat built out of .100 and it was super light, depending on if you want crimps in the bottom it will be somewhat strong.

Re: Uncle J Sounds like I need to stay w/.125. What about the floor, driver box, etc. can that be made out of lighter alum to shave a few pounds off? Sounds like it will be winch mounts front and rear and always inviting friends stronger than me.

Re: Uncle J My 19x40 skiff is .100ga. I added ribs in between every rib in the bottom of the boat to stiffen up the bottom. Every year I have to beat dents out of the bottom and weld up cracks. Thats just from everyday use. It has crimps on each side and 3 corrigations on the bottom. That is a must on a .100 ga boat. I dont find the crimps hurt me in the mud. I would not reccomend that for anyone. Like above post said, the weight difference isnt gonna be alot, but the structural integrity will be alot better with 1/8.
